About this deal

and Weeminx - I may be wrong as it was ages ago, but I'm 90% sure it was that - as i said, it wasn't for sale. The Thorny Devil is a small Australian lizard that has many different names, including the thorny devil, the mountain devil, thorny lizard, moloch and thorny dragon. It does have several predators, including man but the lizard has also developed many different ways to protect itself from becoming prey.

They also roll themselves into a ball when they feel threatened by lowering their head between their front legs, presenting their "false head". Thorny Devils are found on our Charles Darwin, Hamelin and Eurardy reserves in Western Australia, as well as Pilungah and Ethabuka in Queensland. In addition, the unusual gait used by this lizard involves a freezing and rocking motion that it employs when seeking food, water and mates. This allows moisture to spread across wider surface areas, yielding faster uptake, as water is collected via capillary action in small channels located between its scales.Females lay 3 to 10 eggs in burrows much deeper than their normal ones and fill in the holes to cover up any signs of the burrow. While this means there is no immediate concern for the time being, at least it is noted with a status. The same hydrophilic moisture-harvesting physiology is characteristic in the Texas horned lizard ( Phrynosoma cornutum), roundtail horned lizard ( Phrynosoma modestum), desert horned lizard ( Phrynosoma platyrhinos), Arabian toad-headed agama ( Phrynocephalus arabicus), sunwatcher toadhead agama ( Phrynocephalus helioscopus), Phrynocephalus horvathi, yellow-spotted agama ( Trapelus flavimaculatus), Trapelus pallidus and desert agama ( Trapelus mutabilis). Currently, this species is classified as Least Concern (LC) on the IUCN Red List and its numbers today are stable. The thorny lizard does have a layer of protection that has nothing to do with the scaly skin it has.

There is a circulatory system of tiny channels (5 to 150 µm wide) created between the scales were this capillary phenomenon takes place.Presumably, their jerky movements and frequent freezing in place helps conceal them if a predator spots them out in the open. Then the dew is channeled to its mouth by gravity and capillary action via the channels between its spines.

The thorny devil’s scientific name, Moloch horridus, was inspired by John Milton’s poem “Paradise Lost. The incubation period varies, depending on the heat, but once the babies hatch, they are left to fend for themselves. This ring is perfect for going to any metal gig and being the envy of everyone there as both you and your hand give the devil horns… hornception, shall we say? Captured water is transported passively via capillary action in semi-tubular channels located beneath the partially overlapping scales, in an asymmetric and interconnected system that extends over the lizard's entire body surface.
