I began this painting of a tree frog with pale, watery mixes of watercolour which were a match to the lightest tonal values within each colour. I applied it with a size 1 brush and stippled the paint a little to recreate the rough texture of the frog’s skin. The brightest parts of the highlights were so light that I wanted to avoid painting them at all, but this colour was the next lightest I could see.We love it paired with a complementing colour palette or hung in clever spaces for a distinct statement that is uniquely you. The consistency of this mix was not only less thick compared to the darkest tone from the previous step, but also not as watery as the original lightest tone mix from step 5. This open edition print of my original watercolour painting is printed with archival non-fade inks on quality heavy 250gsm paper. I then layered up within each colour area, always waiting for each previous layer to dry first, working on the darkest tones followed by the midtones. I applied a Payne’s Gray and Permanent Sap Green mix, adding Winsor Lemon where needed at a thicker consistency than the first layer.
