About this deal

The BeyerDynamic DT1770 Pro is a pair of closed-back studio headphones that are designed to bring your audio experience to an entirely new level. Let’s have an in-depth look at Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro, the fancy cousin of one of the most successful studio closed-backs, the DT 770 Pro. Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pros aren’t cheap headphones, but there are no more affordable headphones that can match their build and bass performance.

The DT 1770 Pro’s tonal balance overall, then, is one I’d describe as being somewhat dark; it has pretty warm bass along with mids which possess a soft presence, but it still has a bit of low and mid treble hotness. When I removed the DT 1770 Pro from the packaging I was immediately impressed with the hefty weight, metal laden construction, and rock solid feel through and through.A pair of leatherette ear pads provide a more closed sound making the headphones more suited for monitoring applications. Unless you're deep within audiophile circles, and happy to drop a great deal of your hard-earned cash on the latest amplifier and DAC setup, it's not going to be a purchase you make lightly. I played tracks from my own FLAC library as well as from Qobuz streaming service played via Roon (exclusive mode). Most of these “new” headphones feature a removable cable and that makes me and a whole lot of other “audiophiles” very happy. New for the DT 1770 Pro is Beyerdynamic’s 45mm Tesla driver, but like its predecessor, it’s still intended to be a professional monitoring headphone that can also be used for mixing and mastering.

The biggest advantage I see to the 1770 for example, is not the Tesla drivers or the heavy-duty build, it’s the much smoother response due to the better materials and acoustic tuning. There's a dip in the treble that veils instruments and vocals and a big peak in the high treble that makes sibilants like cymbals piercing. I agree with DMS that it might be boosted because it added deep rumbling sub-bass to test-songs I’ve heard a thousand times. The ear cups don't swivel to make them easier to wear around your neck, and they'll take up quite a bit of space in your bag.Unfortunately I didn’t make a video at the time, so there is no version to watch on YouTube, however, I will be making some comparisons (as is expected) throughout this review).
