We always spend ages look at this and talking about what the everyone is eating and what some of the foods might taste like. One of the things I try to do during my visits is to give children confidence that their own ideas are good ones and to show them that writing need not be an arduous task to be endured, but a joyful and exciting activity to share. How to Find Egyptian Treasure is Albie's 9th story, one of my girls' favourite books, and one I've been meaning to share here for a while. Playfully anarchic and packed with silliness, these rhyming books about manners and getting dressed have become firm household favourites! The Many Worlds of Albie Bright does much for the subject of science – showing it off as a sparkling subject full of curiosity, investigation, and ‘trying to do the impossible.

It shows Neanderthal – or stone age – people sewing hides, carving a bear and playing a bone flute, as well as Albie and his new friend Thorn painting their adventure on the cave wall.

With bright, appealing illustrations, and loveable characters, young children will quickly relate to the situations, dilemmas and emotions that Sonny and his friends encounter. After we had finished reading this for the first time, my eldest said "I LOVE it - can we read it again? The garden has grown beyond all belief and these are not just any old plants - oh, no - Albie's seeds have grown into great big jurassic jungle!

The fun starts right from the first page where Caryl and Ed give the reader a list of things to spot throughout the book, centred around the book’s theme. I rarely make such a claim, however, The Many Worlds of Albie Bright is a novel that gripped me from the start and to risk adding cliché … no, I couldn’t put it down.
