About this deal

The specs are right, the looks are right and the screen sizes (48in, 65in and 77in, as well as the 55in unit we’re looking at) are right. You should take the card you paid with, and proof of name and address details with you when you go to collect (driving license/house bill/bank statement). The 55OLED806 is also widely available across Europe for around €1150, but the TP Vision-owned Philips brand doesn’t sell its TVs in the United States. The 55OLED806 also adds HDR10+ Adaptive support to the HDR10+, Dolby Vision and Dolby Vision IQ premium HDR systems the OLED805 TVs carried last year, enabling automatic adjustment of HDR10+ content to better suite ambient light levels. You’ll be immersed in your favourite shows with the Ambilight feature on the Philips 55OLED806/12 55″ Smart 4K Ultra HD HDR OLED TV.

Native 4K 120Hz titles look spectacularly sharp and detailed, gorgeously and immersively fluid (especially with VRR active), beautifully rich in local contrast and dynamism, seriously responsive, and explosively vibrant. Actually, the 55OLED806 is flexible and assured enough to play perfect nicely with the Filmmaker mode’s requirements, so that it becomes just another viable option to try for different types of content. Information about the network technologies and standards supported by the model, which allow for it to connect to and communicate with other devices. Control is via a fairly large, fairly comprehensive remote control handset that uses a nice slice of Muirhead leather on its rear surface to make it altogether more tactile than any alternative handset from any alternative manufacturer. Our partners are electronics experts who test and verify that each product is 100% functional before it leaves the factory. It’s not half-bad by the generally pretty bad standards of Android TV, with a good selection of apps (including Disney+ but not Apple TV) and a layout that’s marginally less infuriating than on previous Android TV interfaces.

Well, that and Ambilight - the LEDs to the rear of the set which illuminate the surrounding surfaces, as if the picture emits beyond the TV screen.Every now and then a really extreme bass sound - the sort of thing you feel directors put in deliberately to damage subwoofers - can cause some bass to simply disappear from the mix, or else cause the drivers to collapse into crackling noise. Controlling the OLED806 using just your voice is simple and straightforward – just as long as you don’t attempt anything too tricky (like entering those setup menus). Somehow, though, the OLED806 can momentarily push this brightness to a mighty 943 nits if you use the Vivid mode that Philips' picture experts recommend. OLED Organic Light Emitting Diode is panel technology that allows each individual pixel to produce light rather than relying on a backlight. I took a screen of the 800 series to have the ambilight 4 sides which gives a nice rendering for a screen hung on the wall and allows to be more immersed in the picture.

But heavily compressed HD and SD sources can look over-processed and unnatural using the picture modes Philips tends to lean towards with its out of the box presets. This latest P5 advance brings Philips' anti burn-in technology down to the 806 series, while the impressive AI content classification processing introduced on last year's range has been bolstered by new Ambient Light and Film Detection elements. Textures in general – and skin tones in particular – are fully expressed and absolutely alive with fine detail. This, coupled with Philips' famed amblilight technology which emits a light glow thats matching the colours on the screen gives you amazing, immersive content, thats sure to wow you every time you sit down to watch the 55OLED806/12. There’s support for eARC over HDMI, enabling the TV to pass Dolby Atmos sound to compatible soundbars or AV receivers, and the HDMI ports are joined by multimedia playback USBs and the usual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options. But where it isn’t slim, it’s very nearly 7cm deep, which could be problematic if you’re keen to hang it off your wall. Intelligent LEDs around the edge of the TV respond to the on-screen action and emit an immersive glow that's simply captivating. I'm very pleased with the sound quality of the speakers (it's my first oled TV so I can't compare it to any other TV).
