About this deal

After a successful debut the temptation might have been to maintain the status quo but instead Du Beke takes the risk of significant developments taking place in the lives of the primary cast and as a result the novel proves to be as engrossing as the first. I couldn’t wait to see what new events were happening in the hotel and what new dances were being introduced to England. I love how this author weaves his story around what is actually happening in the Country at the time in which it is set. What an enchanting book, I was transported from sitting in my conservatory listening to the rain to this wonderful glamorous world of dance, where I could feel the music vibrating through the wooden floorboards and hear the swish of the women’s gowns - magical! Satisfying second encounter with the Grand Ballroom and the staff at the Buckingham Hotel in Mayfair.

The staff and guests of the Buckingham soon discover that in a hotel full of secrets, there’s always someone listening . I adore Downtown Abbey and Strictly so when I read the blurb for this gorgeous book and knowing that Anton is such a gentleman on the show I had a feeling this book was going to be Enchanting, Romantic and would sweep me off my feet and I wasn't wrong. And with a wonderfully eclectic cast, the story just reads itself off the page, so well it is all executed. It is made so dramatic by an excellent feeling for character and the twists and turns of fortune that affect their lives.

However his girlfriend, Nancy, is horrified at the prospect of leaving her job as a chambermaid and her volunteer charity work with London's poor. The deco decoration at the start of each chapter sets the scene for the ball room and grand hotel where all the action occurs. Of course being known for his dancing skills on "Strictly come dancing" this story centred around the ballroom of the Grand Buckingham hotel. It follows on from the successful “One Enchanted Evening”, but it stands alone in terms of a very readable novel. The book evokes the same nostalgia as Downton Abbey and Gosford Park, and I could easily imagine this to be made into a Sunday night series. Raymond de Guise and Nancy’s relationship develops in what could have been a hug of a love story, but by the end I couldn’t muster any care for either of them. I’m very impressed by his literary skills and I’m delighted to hear there will be more to come from him in this truly delightful and sassy series, suitable for all ages. Nancy is finally feeling settled and at home in the Buckingham but has dreams of achieving so much more.

Shaken by the Great Depression and with talk of another war coming, the Buckingham Hotel is trying to regain some stability. At Books2Door, we believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every child should have to help improve their vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills. Dancer–entertainer Anton Du Beke’s historical extravaganza, Moonlight Over Mayfair, is everything one would expect from this Strictly star turned novelist.
