About this deal

So often you see public figures climb to the top of the mountain stepping on people as they go but O’Neils generous and warm personality makes for a winning account of triumph over adversity when facing very difficult odds. He also speaks about managing the Republic of Ireland, and working alongside his mercurial assistant, Roy Keane.

One Thursday lunchtime the Earth gets unexpectedly demolished to make way for a new hyperspace bypass. I particularly enjoyed watching his Leicester City side that won 2 League Cups, his Celtic side that broke Rangers stranglehold on the Scottish league and his exciting Irish side that made the second round of the European Championships against all odds.I have always been a great admirer of Martin O'Neil as a player and a manager, so I was really looking forward to reading his story.

With all that considered, I was looking forward to an in-depth account of his career in sport, however I felt a bit let down by this. As a manager, his legendary time in charge of Celtic saw them win 7 trophies including 3 Scottish Premier League titles and the UEFA Cup, successfully leading Leicester City and Aston Villa to League Cups in England. This deeply personal and supportive series offers listeners an honest and relatable insight into how some the UK's best-known celebrities have coped with mental health difficulties, ranging from OCD to insomnia, addiction to grief, and depression to anxiety.

From his upbringing in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, and thoughts of being a lawyer, to being spotted by Nottingham Forest and moving to England. I understand it is a life's work and Celtic was only five years but it was a huge job, with many situations occurring and controversies. He talks about his years with Celtic, where the team won seven trophies and reached the UEFA Cup Final in 2003, and at Aston Villa, where he achieved three consecutive top six Premier League finishes. I wasn’t yet born or old enough to witness his exploits as a player (2 league titles and 2 Champions League titles with Nottingham Forest under the legendary Brian Clough and a stellar showing for Northern Ireland in the 1982 World Cup in Spain), but I have witnessed his exploits as a football manager who overachieved at every team that he has ever managed. Listen in as she takes six different people on a career change journey to help them figure out what work they would really love to do and create a plan of how to make that career change happen.

The book will take you through his career from playing in Northern Ireland to being a key part of the team that won 2 European Cups in the 70s, with George Best. Now Caine delves into the real stories behind the gangs we think we know so well, revealing the hidden realities behind the myths. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together.

I enjoyed this book a good deal, because Martin describes his football journeyvery eloquently throughout, sometimes in a self deprecating way, but always with clarity and honesty. Learn nine essential ways to detox your mindset, feel lighter and more energised, to live a happier and more fulfilling life.
