About this deal

The lens, together with the OM-D's built-in image stabilizer, allows you to take crystal-clear night shots from the palm of your hand.

But I did note that the clutch got accidentally disengaged a lot when I was putting the camera into or pulling the camera from the bag.The reason is that at this focal length, the front element is very much exposed and the hood doesn’t protect it that much. Its large capacity allows storage of multiple cameras and interchangeable lenses, while its overall compact size allows you to carry it on board when flying. You can upload: image, audio, video, document, spreadsheet, interactive, text, archive, code, other. At 14mm wide open, the center sharpness falls off just a bit wide open and f/4 is the best aperture. But my Panasonic lens was a bit out of alignment (one edge was softer than the other), so it's difficult to make any further comparisons.

Stopping down further softens the image due to diffraction, with f/11 marginal and f/22 barely usable. If you're looking for a first rate ultra-wideangle lens for your Micro Four Thirds camera, the OM System M. It's difficult to say exactly how good the corners really are, though, because this lens has very significant field curvature at 7mm (but ignorable at 14mm, I think).

Again the centre is ludicrously sharp wide open, to the extent that it’s inducing coloured moire patterns in the brickwork, but now the corner is much improved, even at f/2. To see how the two ultra wides handled the same scene, I photographed the interior of Liverpool Cathedral with both lenses mounted on the same OMD EM1 body within moments of each other, and at all apertures.

Dust, splash, and freezeproof construction ensures this lens' performance in inclement conditions and harsh environments. If you include the sun - or any other strong light source - in the frame, you will likely see a number of ghosts as well as a bit of veiling. Needless to say it’s up to each photographer to decide for themselves whether this performance will meet their needs (it’s also worth nothing that you don’t have to move too much further into the centre of the frame for the image to sharpen up considerably).Of course the more you zoom in or use longer focal lengths, the more the perspective distortion will be reduced. With the type of near-middle-far landscape I work, I'm pretty sure I can make this lens perform at f/2. But the combination of field curvature and linear distortion correction makes getting "corner snap" difficult for some types of photography.

Obviously, more traditional landscape type applications will be a siren song, but I’ve never been a huge fan of using ultra wides, but rather semi wides to near standard focal lengths for more traditional landscape stuff, just because while you can get a sweeping view, you tend to sacrifice detail and realistic perspective in my opinion when using ultra wides. Can't say it's a real drawback, and it may be the rough handling that my gear goes through on my travels, but it's something to be aware of.PRO lens comes with a standard Micro Four Thirds mount that is, as you'd expect, made of metal, with a rubber seal around the mount. some people don't think that lens performs all that well, but that's because they're trying to make it capture flat fields and aren't compensating for the field curvature. On top of that, even if you level your camera perfectly, your frame edges are often subject to varying degrees of distortion which can really affect your frame.
