The boys had fun attempting to blast their creatures out of the crate and comparing the differences between the monsters. There are 12 characters available at the moment; Blizz, Flea, Guang, Crosseyes, Stubbs, Cappa, Pudge, SnortHog, Tenta, Sizzle, Tugger and Croak! He makes 45 monstrously cool creature sound effects and he even comes with his own food (a corndog on a stick) which you can feed him. Once you open up the crate, your monster will pop up – thanks to a spring-loaded platform – which is a pretty fun way to have him introduce himself. The Crate Creatures come complete with temporary batteries so they are good to go straight out of the box (for a short while anyway). I'm Erica, a forty-something woman with Crohn's disease (among other things) and diagnosed with ADHD aged 44. As they contain Slime you would need to use some level of supervision for kids that might get it everywhere – don’t blame me if it ends up on your carpet! Blizz has lots of lovely features, he has a broken nail on his toe and finger (trying to escape from the crate?It can be used both indoors and outdoors, you just need a big enough indoor area for them to use while jumping. Anyway, that’s enough reminiscing – back to Crate Creatures… There are 4 to collect… Sizzle, Blizz, Snorthog and Pudge (who we got). Each character has 45+ unique sounds, has a favourite food and comes with a reusable create, snack, crowbar, lock and chain.

When we were asked to review a Crate Creatures Surprise, I had a quick google and was immediately reminded of two 1980s toys… “Boggling” – remember those? It's easier than it sounds - although these little critters will shout and growl and try to scare you off. That’s exactly what I thought when I first heard about Crate Creatures Surprise from MGA Entertainment. Although Crate Creatures by look a bit menacing, they're big softies really and make kids laugh a whole lot more than they could ever scare them by unleashing growling and funny noises (ones I know Tyler as a 5 year old boy definitely gets a giggle out of!The crate isn't just a piece of packaging that you throw away after you've opened it, it can be reused and played with time and time again. Snort Hog is just the right size to hold and play with and he has soft fur and plastic face and hands/feet.
