Given its history and pedigree I really want to love this one, but I can't make a decision about it. I don't know what the cologne concentration smells like, or how more modern iterations smell like but I have a small vial of the parfum dating back from the 1950s. L'Aimant Creamy Skin Perfume is based in sandalwood, musk, vetiver, vanilla, tonka bean, and some cedar.

Finally I want to say that this fragrance is suitable for any time of the year, any time of day or night. It is not powdery or cheap smelling at all, it's a very peach/vanilla/sandalwood/incense oriental in the vein of Shalimar and Chanel Coco that is absolutely intoxicating, and it lasts for an eternity. It arrived today, looking quite familiar in its deep pink and gold box, enclosing a glossy black bottle. Interestingly, out of all the perfumes I received, this is the only one that appears to have been a 'go-to' fragrance for my benefactor.Freddie also gave me a vial of Miel de Bois - he is a self-styled "enfant terrible" after all, and it was every drop the evil honeyed thing of my traumatised memory - and one of actual perfumer's ambergris (1 year old 1% black ambergris tincture to be precise), which I was very excited to smell. Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions. There are a lot of notes in this and they're somehow cohesive and easy to recognize separately, at the same time. The fact that this quality is still apparent even in a decades-old vintage bottle is quite an achievement.

My father mutters darkly in Italian about men who wear cologne; my mother sees perfume as self-indulgent. When I wear aldehydes the fragrance rivets my attention and senses, and I feel cool oxygenated energy going in my nose, barely touching my shoulders (throat), rather whoosing up and out my Third Eye and mostly the Crown chakras, as it were. so I can't comment on the similarities, but I can say that this is a sweet and powdery floral bomb that made me feel extremely feminine but also rather powerful. But last Saturday I propelled myself through my inertia and bought a ticket for a matinee performance of a film I had been dying to see ( Good Vibrations), which was showing for two days only in the UK's oldest working cinema, the Electric. This was a favourite of my grandmother and my great aunts-they used to tell me stories of the three of them sharing a bottle during the war years and jealously guarding it and making sure that none of them used more drops than the others did-they seem to have eked it out for years. It smells like really lovely old school rose soap, and lathers up all creamy and full of soapy suds, in a bathroom with a pale pink shell sink, gold taps and fluffy pink bath mats.
