The router was able to deliver super-fast speeds, and an excellent range. Many will be able to get by without adding a second node to their setup — as even on a second floor I was able to get great speeds with only one node set up. When placed on a surface — and there’s no mounting option unless you get third-party accessories — the router is not stable. It topples easily. In short, the XE200 is very thin on settings and features. But that can be good for folks who want a mesh that works for their Wi-Fi connection needs and not much else. The XE200 looks great — each router is a piece of home decor! — taking the shape of a cylindrical box that tapers toward the base. The hardware seems more like a flower vase than a piece of tech. But at times, in our anecdotal testing, we did notice the fluctuation in speed, likely causing the client to switch from one band to another. We hooked the primary router’s 10Gbps to our 10Gbps Fiber-optic broadband for daily use. So it’s the first on the market that comes with two 10Gbps Multi-Gig ports, with the option of using one as an SFP+ port.The second new router is the Archer AXE300 which comes with traditional antennas but manages to have some novelty of its own: It’s the first Quad-band router from TP-Link. After that, there’s an option to access a few settings of the Deco XE200 via its local web user interface. The system offers excellent coverage too. With only one set up, you’ll get an impressive 3,300 square feet of coverage, which is raised to 6,600 square feet with a second node. That’s more than much of the competition, which often offers between 2,000 and 2,500 square feet of range. Do NOT turn off the power during the upgrade process, as it may cause permanent damage to the product. In short, even when hosting a super-fast brand or a local server, the 10Gbps port doesn’t have any way to show its performance on the hardware’s output front. So, this port is always overkill.

Clients need to support 802.11k/v/r and may require additional set up. Performance may vary depending on the client device. In both cases I used my usual test laptop, with an Intel AX210 Wi-Fi 6E network card (supporting 2×2 MIMO) to copy files to and from an Asustor Drivestor 4 Pro NAS appliance, which was connected to the XE200 via 2.5GbE. When I enabled 6E client connections and repeated the test on the 6GHz band, the XE200 didn’t fare so well: The TP-Link Deco XE200, at this point in time, is a little overshadowed by TP-Link’s new Wi-Fi 7 routers — but it thankfully still offers a range of modern technologies at a cheaper price than TP-Link’s newest offerings. As you have noted in the table above, the biggest thing about the XE200 is its 6GHz band and the 10GbE port, which can work as a WAN or a LAN.
