Honestly, I find the various frequencies on the Atmos track to be better delineated as opposed to sort of blending together.I also appreciated the effectiveness of the added dimension during sequences where subtle special cues replicated the environments contained in the scene. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). I think that this immersive sound mix complimented the source material and enhanced an already terrific home theater experience. How can you not like a movie that takes elements of Japanese Manga, genocidal war, Oblivion and mix it in with Groundhog Day?

But regardless of which side of the Cruise fence you come down on, the star gleefully and knowingly builds on this and his William Cage is one of his most rounded and engaging characters in his whole filmography. stronger visuals and an all-new Dolby Atmos track along with the same slate of bonus features from that earlier disc.

Then I saw the theatrical trailer when the release was only a few weeks out and a trip to the theater was set for opening weekend. It also makes Cage's training montage all the funnier because, with each comical failure, we witness his growth and start rooting for him, not only to succeed in destroying the Omega, the Alpha and the Mimics but also to learn some altruistic humility.

In throwing us into the middle of the story with little snippets of Cruise's Cage already in promo mode, it allows the A-list actor to just do his smug but charming shtick he is famous for, and Cruise's go-to act works to the plot's benefit. The Atmos soundtrack is absolutely overwhelming, particularly in bass frequencies so strong that you may need to adjust the levels on your TV or external speakers to protect them. Rita is great as the straight man (and a gorgeous straight man at that), and Tom Cruise adds his trademark wit and charm to the film, but the real humor addition here is the inclusion of Sergeant Farell. This one does make you feel the grind with it as well as some of the nail biting suspense as well as revelations dwindle hope or make you respect Cruise’s characters dedication to the cause. Working from a script written, in part, by Christopher McQuarrie ( The Usual Suspects), Liman doesn’t ever confuse the lines of chronology, only occasionally flirting with the uncanny by skipping past unnecessary “life lessons.Fine details in low light elements can be slightly problematic and shows noise uptick, but otherwise this is a superb looking disc that actually looks a lot better than I was expecting it to look considering the visual aesthetics of the film + the fact that it was a 2K upscale. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.
