Chain of Iron, the second installment in The Last Hours series, takes everything that Chain of Gold did well and adds to it. We learned at the end of the first book that he loves Cordelia, and there are so many little moments that bring this to life.

First of all, it was unnecessarily longā€”and when I say it was too long I donā€™t mean that it was maybe fifty pages too long, but hundreds of pages too long. I do have some larger negatives with this book than any other book of Cassieā€™s but thatā€™s for later on! Overall, letā€™s just say that I thought it was super cute and the problems that ensued didnā€™t didnā€™t take all that much away from my enjoyment. Yeah, we got to see Ariadne determined to win Anna back, and their scenes at the Hell Ruelle, but what I really wanted was emotional development. Ariadne: I wanted to see Ariadne/Kamala on her own when she wasnā€™t obsessing over Anna or wanting her to get back itā€™s like her entire arc revolved around Anna.james had only smiled at this, and when she tried to make him tell her what he was thinking of, he waved it away.

I have all my favorites from The Clockwork Devices series but I just love the energy of the merry thieves.Lastly: I think we can all agree that the most unproblematic character was Oscar the Golden Retriever. sheā€™s the thing that held him together during his darkest moments and ah i adore that so much šŸ˜© she was quite literally the light of his life. Though the majority of the action takes place in 1903, the narrative moves back and forth in time, quite similar to that in Chain of Gold, with chapters subtitled "Days Past".

Thomas Lightwood and Alastair Carstairs have undeniable romantic tension, but neither of them are willing to admit it. Don't forget that this book takes place 4 or 5 months after book 1 and in book 1 they slowly becoming fond of one another, plus in the past 4 or 5 months after the events of book 1 they hung out almost every night so naturally it was going to happen. Lucie has grown so much in this book, although it pains me to see her keeping so many secrets from the others. he made such stupid decisions sometimes, like wearing the bracelet grace gave him to his wedding with cordelia, saying ā€œthank godā€ when grace told him sheā€™d broken off the engagement in the end - i mean, for fuckā€™s sake, you couldnā€™t have picked a better phrase?And I think Lucie might get her Shadowhunter marks stripped in the next book because isnā€™t necromancy very illegal?
