This book is a must-read for anyone seeking a comprehensive and in-depth exploration of the Dunkirk evacuation and its impact on the war. He is content to let you know that the British army is trapped, and gets right into the business of showing you how they got un-trapped.

However, if Gort’s statement as quoted by Shand is true, that ‘without the Twelfth Lancers only a small part of the Army would have reached Dunkirk,’ then it would appear there is another element of the story which is still to be told. As a reader, you felt a connection with the main character keeping you guessing what would happen next. After listening to it I do understand why it was a miracle and am truly amazed and inspired by how many civilians came to the rescue. Lord is not a cheerleader and doesn’t indulge (for the most part) in the romances of this great escape.It was exactly as described by the seller and was packaged well to prevent any damage during transit.
