About this deal

The father of Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas has often been caught trying to coach his son, most notably at this year's Australian Open, where an umpire was stationed underneath his box to catch any comments. Djokovic’s default means that for the first time since US Open 2014 we will see a new GS champion crowned.

Designed for ages 8 and under, red transition balls are depressurized and bounce about 75% less than a normal tennis ball. While not quite as skilled as Dominica Cibulkova, on some I can tell the difference immediately, but many play very similar so it would be tricky. In terms of the US Open ball, I’d say it did fluff up and soften quicker than the Head Tour (formerly Head ATP) ball, but it certainly wasn’t anywhere in the same low division league as the Dunlop Fort All Court ball.Increased moisture and dirt can cause these balls to fluff up more than Extra Duty balls, though they use a thinner felt woven more tightly around the core to resist this fluffing. Believe it or not, I’ve experienced this personally with a few, supposedly premium level, balls, but we’ll save that story for another article.

Any balls below the Championship line of balls will be made of mostly or all with synthetic nylon fibers and will be a needle-punch felt. Because the pressure inside the ball is higher than the air pressure outside, the pressure inside will leak out slowly over time. The combination of the rubber core and pressurized air gives fresh tennis balls that nice “pop” sound when they strike your strings (well hopefully strings and not your frame)! Most of the balls on the market (majority of the ones sold at Tennis Warehouse) have a blend of natural wool and synthetic nylon fibers to comprise the optic yellow felt on the outer surface of the ball. The weight is excellent, so is the amount of fuzz on the ball, and this ball sails through the air faster than a Penn or Penn Pro. In the case of the Wilson US Open ball, the ball’s power level deteriorated a little quicker than I was hoping for, but it wasn’t disastrous like some of the Dunlop balls I’ve tested.
