About this deal

When even this small source of revenue dries up, the family must move on again, this time to England. After hearing a Holocaust survivor, Eve Kugler, speak at a Holocaust memorial day event in my department last week, I read this book, aimed at older children but really for readers of all ages, which is a fictionalised account of the author's own childhood experiences in Germany in the early 1930s. The novel is set between 1933 and 1936, and traces the life of protagonist Anna, who is nine years old at the novel’s opening, as her family flees Germany for Switzerland, France, and, finally, England. Anna, kardeşi Max ve ebeveynlerinin Hitler yüzünden nasıl Almanyadan kaçmak zorunda kaldıklarını okuyoruz. I absolutely adored this book and gave it full stars mainly after watching the Judith Kerr documentarydocumentary .

Set during World War Two, this semi-autobiographical novel traces the story of a young Jewish girl and her family who flee Berlin just as the Nazis come to power. Out of the Hitler Time is a trilogy of semi-autobiographical novels by Judith Kerr for children and young adults.

When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit: Fifty years of the classic

He wants everybody to vote for him in the elections and then he’s going to stop the Jews,” said Elsbeth. Long before Mog the Forgetful Cat and The Tiger Who Came to Tea, there was pink rabbit – the stuffed toy that Judith Kerr left behind when her family fled Berlin on the eve of the election that would bring Hitler to power. Also featured is a bonus edition of World Book Club, in which Harriett Gilbert talks to Judith Kerr about her life and work. Anna is sad to leave her friends and her home in Berlin, but she's excited at the prospect of going on an adventure. I’ve no idea how this escaped me as a child (I would have devoured it) but extremely thankful to find it as an adult. This has a very different theme to other second world war stories, but it's one of those stories that you can read again and again.
