About this deal
I liked the characters, especially the inscrutable Mr Egbers, who at first seems straight off the Bond villain central casting couch, but as the book progresses he comes over in a very different light, and ticks my favourite box when antagonists have to work together to ensure their survival.

The 'Men at War' series, featuring characters like Dany and Fergus, is another popular series by him. After leaving the Army, McNab developed and maintained a specialist training course for news crews, journalists and members of non-governmental organisations working in hostile environments. The first third of this book was very good, the second third was boring and the third third was rushed and unconvincing. He is a British author and former Special Air Service sergeant who has written several books, including the bestselling Nick Stone missions series. From December 1977 to June 1978, he was posted to South Armagh, Northern Ireland, as part of the British Army's Operation Banner. Packed with relentless action and the sort of riveting authenticity only Andy McNab can provide, Whatever it Takestells the story of one man’s extraordinary pursuit of justice against devastating odds, a story as hard and real and controversial as any of today’s headlines, which will show the world as it really is. He came into public prominence in 1993 when he published a book entitled Bravo Two Zero containing an account of a military mission which he led with the Special Air Service (SAS) during the Gulf War, for which he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal. As ever, McNab serves up plenty of thrills and spills with bags of tension throughout, but there was something about the plot that just failed to grab me by the throat the way his books normally do.

As a member of 22 SAS he was at the centre of covert operations for nine years - on five continents. The award recognised his charity work with The Reading Agency promoting literacy, particularly in young adults and prisoners. I have read and enjoyed pretty much all of his character series and was not sure what to expect with this book. But these are not the kind of people to mess with, as Mercer learns to his cost when one of his break-ins goes disastrously wrong. In Northern Ireland he spent two years working as an undercover operator with 14th Intelligence Group, going on to become an instructor. He failed the entry test for training as an army pilot, but enlisted with the Royal Green Jackets at the age of sixteen after being released from juvenile detention.

Author Andy McNab is a prominent figure in the world of fiction, particularly in the thriller genre. We at Penguin Random House Australia acknowledge that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the Traditional Custodians and the first storytellers of the lands on which we live and work.A philosophical idea that would create a world worthy of reverence and mind blowing ideals of our world society and how it really should be. Try to " level up" is fought only by the wealthy, who of course thinks leveling up is to ensure they have more of the others bank balance.

This book continues the thrilling adventures of Stone, where he has to deal with a dangerous mission once again. The plot twists from one surprise to the next, involving benevolent crusaders and ruthless opponents. Besides his writing work, he lectures to security and intelligence agencies in both the USA and UK, works in the film industry advising Hollywood on everything from covert procedure to training civilian actors to act like soldiers. For a start, the protagonist isn't an ex-SF operator, yet often he slips into the mindset of one, which I felt jarring. When he appeared on television to promote his books or to act as a special services expert, his face was shadowed to prevent identification. Asher concluded that much of what McNab wrote was a fabrication, and that there was no evidence that the Bravo Two Zero patrol accounted for a single enemy casualty. But my main issue was the areas of the plot that either made no sense, or were just soo far fetched it again felt jarring.
