Estrella spent her entire life tending to Lord Byron's gardens in Mistfell during the day and receiving private lessons from him and his tutors at night.

I will always choose you, min asteren,” he said, his brow creasing as he stared at me in something akin to confusion. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The ending was by far the best part of the book, so I would like to believe that will set the precedent for book two. When you first meet Estrella, you see her internal battle of meeting the expectations society sets vs.His dark eyes glimmered, tiny specks of light shining in the obsidian, like the stars that had become my namesake. We have the fated mates trope, which is a common concept we encounter in fae books and I've grown to expect it in these books, and here the mates are marked. Boring✨ This series plot is moving like goddamn sloths, combined with the basic foreshadowing makes the read very boring.

On the day she is supposed to die, the misty veil separating the fae and human realms falls and all hell breaks lose. it had me hoping a second love interest would come in a swoop the MC away, but I don't think that is happening considering how this book ended. Maybe the consent from the Fae Marked (who were being enslaved and forced into marching to the Fae world and forced into relationships with people they didn't even know) was underneath all the times they were depicted as crying and trying to run away and telling Estella: hey we can hear you and um. If you're a fan of JLA's From Blood and Ash and enjoy dagger to the throat meetings, fated mates, forced proximity, 'touch her and die', 'who hurt you', possessive alphaholes, exhibitionism, praise k!The concept of the Mating Bond is interesting and it's marked by a unique tattoo on the human and their fae mate. This is the second time I’m writing this review because goodreads crashed the first time so buckle in because I’m already annoyed. i can't help but think the pacing for the story overall would have been so much better had this book been half or a third in size and the feelings development had happen through-out more time. I know there was a reason for his change, but now I find myself missing their earlier relationship and what they had. In their absence, our lives have shifted from decadence and sin to survival and virtue under the guidance of the New Gods.
