Within a few pages, we are informed that Fiona did not actually intentionally hurt people, she just had severe trauma that caused her to run off with multiple guys and leave everyone else in the lurch, and had a few arguments with a father figure before storming off. With one of the most sinister fictional villains I've come across this had me on the edge of my seat. In this novel Rebekah and David come together as she hires him to look into her mother’s disappearance. You'll be addicted from the hook at the outset, gripped by the intricate plotting and whiplash-inducing twists but what will keep you riveted to the final page is their intelligent, unflinching examination of the darker side of humanity and the damage it can cause us all.In short, this missing persons case begins when Rebekah Murphy contacts David Raker to look into the disappearance of her mother, who walked out on her family 40 years ago and has since had a few random letters in the post pertaining to be her mother…Rebekah wants David to confirm that they were actually from her mother. On the night Tom Brenner and his nine-year-old son Leo visit theSeven Peaks theme park, they head straight for the ghost house. The book begins twelve months after her death, centering on the mysterious reappearance of a man thought to have died in a car crash. It always amazes me how authors manage to not only invent new stories for long-running characters but also keep the books fresh, Tim Weaver is an artist at that! I'm a huge fan of the David Raker series and The Last Goodbye floored me with its perfectly executed twists and tense, original premise.

The Last Goodbye by Tim Weaver | Waterstones

We had a very long and traumatic battle to have our daughter (and) a lot of Chasing the Dead – a lot of the beginning of that first book where (David Raker) is talking about how he feels about his wife – came out of that sense of loss. Please help improve it by removing promotional content and inappropriate external links, and by adding encyclopedic content written from a neutral point of view. It also has a subplot about Raker’s friend Colm Healey’s time in jail and his ability to betray the crimes Raker committed to keep Healey safe. All her life she has wondered what happened and hopes missing person investigator, David, can bring her closure. A couple of times, Leo says something that makes Tom laugh and, on one occasion, Tom ruffles Leo’s hair. She is in the UK to ask for Raker’s help to find her mother, who walked out of the family home in Cambridge nearly 40 years ago and vanished into thin air. This is an excellent addition to the series and although it works as a standalone I would recommend you read the whole series for full entertainment This is another gripping tale full of suspense that I really enjoyed from start to finish.
