About this deal

I don’t wish to spoil the story too much but it was interesting to see particularly the characters of the Cicada and Whale work through their own internal musings and struggles while easily taking lives or at least persuading others to take their own. The narrative in Three Assassins moves back and forth, chapter by chapter, between three characters, former middle school math teacher Suzuki and two very different sorts of contract killers known only as 'The Whale' and Cicada. tiên, mình nghĩ nên đọc cuốn này trước Bullet Train, cả hai cùng một thế giới sát thủ, và sự kiện của cuốn sách này xảy ra trước sự kiện chuyến tàu Shinkansen. Like Bullet Train, Three Assassins is a standalone novel that requires no familiarity with any of Isaka’s previous novels to appreciate the clever story or intense action. Three Assassins, by Kotaro Isaka, is one of the most unusual, imaginative, wacky, and endearing novels featuring assassins I have read.

It switches among points of view, so we sometimes have to read about the same situation from several characters.

As the two men play their cat and mouse game, the other killers come to existential epiphanies of their own. This is a pretty unique and cool character trait which Isaka does a wonderful job portraying throughout Three Assassins. While the assassination of Caesar would be viewed as the killing of a tyrant, killing his supporters would be seen only as a politicized purge and the work of Pompey's former supporters. He also has some unspoken mental illness, as he sees the ghosts of those he has murdered trying to manipulate his actions as he did theirs. Suzuki must take each of them on, to try to find justice and keep his innocence in a world of killers. this derives from William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar (1599), where it actually forms the first half of a macaronic line: " Et tu, Brute? Antony did not initially consider Octavius a true political threat due to his young age and inexperience, but Octavius quickly gained the support and admiration of Caesar's friends and supporters. After that, another group would take over, far more persistent, starting their illegal solicitation.
