But as the night went on with no sign of her maid-of-honor, Libby started to realise something was very, very wrong. Selective herbicides are designed to target broadleaf weeds and invasive grasses while sparing your desired grass. She had lots more depth in the first two books but her character had absolutely no dimension this time around which was really disappointing to see. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I really liked the mystery around who the killer was and the fact that there was several likely suspects. Although he turns out to be a prime suspect now, they are yet to establish a motive, opportunity, and instrument of execution for the heinous crime.I liked this balance and I think that the author has definitely found their groove with the tone of this series now. Foamstream is an example of a herbicide-free weed killer that isn't affected by external factors such as the weather. I certainly couldn't predict who the killer was and I enjoyed how the story concluded, but I was just expecting more blood and more snow, so it just wasn't as exciting as the previous two instalments in the series. This is the third book in the DI James Walker series and I loved the first two so I was super excited to read this one!

The police procedural works as it doesn't rely on standard plot lines even though I had worked out the killer, but I read far too much. This book had me hooked from the first page, I didn't want to put it down and this was one of the twistiest and most complicated murder cases I've ever read about. This includes the weather conditions at certain times of year, the specific weed you are trying to eliminate, and the life cycle of that weed. Killing off weeds during winter is a perfect way to guarantee the grass in your lawn will have no competition for resources when it starts to grow again in early spring.The plot has been made gripping from the very onset by the author, who has also given a brief overview of the characters and their role in the machination. Big Island, LA connects the dots between a heist gone wrong at a police shooting range and corporate greed and political corruption, leaving a former combat marine and an agoraphobic crime reporter to sort out the mystery. Because it comes out in the fall I save if for the last book of the year, reading them around Christmas. Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). I had the killer down for most of the story, but it's nice to play amateur detective and find out that I'm right!The book starts with a hint that so far it looks like this small town has escaped the Christmas curse of the past couple of years of bad murders happening. A treatment cycle for weeds is how often you need to use weed killer for the weed to be effectively exterminated. It was a bit long winded at times but the short chapters and the easy likeable characters keep the pages turning.
