Though this is a tale about fairies it's not a fairytale in the conventional sense; while there are traditional elements this is essentially an adventure story involving young Asa Brown attempting to solve a centuries-old conundrum, and what he did after he found the answer. Asa discovers that the creature is a sprite, first identified by the mysterious Benjamin Tooth on Windvale Moor two hundred years previously. This is a lovely book - a great modern fairytale, where a young boy finds a strange creature in his pond after a storm, and then goes on a quest to find out more. These are the recently discovered journals of Benjamin Tooth: alchemist, inventor and discoverer of the Windvale sprites.I saw this charming children's book in a local LittleFreeLibrary and ran off with it when I discovered it was written by an actor from the Pirates of the Carribean film series. Then he gets himself locked inside the trunk and looks through it until he finds out that the sprites live in the Windvale Moor.

The opening words drew me in – the scenes of destruction and mayhem were painted with evocative style.

A lot of the story relates to the new book, and I enjoyed it more knowing some of the background of Benjamin Tooth and the Windvale Sprites.
