About this deal

I adored each one of the guests who each had little in common with one another but found themselves forming unexpected bonds and transformations. When you're being asked afterwards how your weekend was, you're probably going to smile and say: "Well, it was actually a really good one. So you are in for a treat as there are stories within stories that both engage and entertain her readers. You should accept it, it's time and money well spent if you like to laugh, to worry, to swear and to get turned on. John Buchan, author of The Thirty-Nine Steps, did not see active service in the first world war, spending it instead as a correspondent, an intelligence officer and, finally, as director of information under Lord Beaverbrook.

The Long Weekend: Life in the English Country House Bet…

A big thank you to William Morrow and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. With so many different sub-plots taking place in this book it would be easy to expect problems with pacing and fluidity but Fiona Palmer has woven the various storylines together seamlessly with her lyrical and cinematic writing. It really makes you stop and think how you would react if placed in a situation like that: Being isolated, not knowing if this is a hoax or if your husband is in fact dead, having to navigate this with women you're not close to and find no comfort in. I did enjoy the little side serve of romance that is gently embroidered into the plot, but Palmer is careful not to overpower the storyline with this thread.Entire progression needs your full attention because POVs of the story changes without giving any warning.

Stay on the west side of the island to while away the day on the white sands of Cala'n Bosch beach . For those not familiar with this region of our state, Palmer acts as the perfect tour guide, enticing the audience to all of the scenic delights of this amazing area of our country.Drawing on hundreds of memoirs, on unpublished letters and diaries, on the eye-witness testimonies of belted earls and unhappy heiresses and bullying butlers, The Long Weekend gives a voice to the people who inhabited this world.

Upon arrival at Dark Fell Barn, the women find a devastating note claiming one of their husbands will be murdered. It’s this group – plus several daring new ones, designed during these years – in which his interest lies. Some characters and places, however, will keep reappearing, among them the premier architect of big houses in this period, Philip Tilden, and his client Sir Philip Sassoon, the fabulously wealthy Conservative MP for whom, in 1918, he designed the outrageous Port Lympne on a site overlooking Romney Marsh. C ross the River Vltava by the iconic Charles Bridge , or walk hand-in-hand up to the world’s largest ancient castle . With no phone or internet reception, the women became frantic, unable to contact their husbands to reassure themselves this was just a poorly judged joke.

I loved reading about the character’s interesting stories and dramas that lay behind the facade of their everyday lives. From the beautiful avenues of Champs Elysees in Paris to the charming canals that labyrinth through Venice , the continent is full of fairytale destinations. She feels spotlit by it, intensely vulnerable, and takes off down the hill, running as quickly as she can, not caring what she steps on, or whether she risks falling.
