About this deal

Donald Brake from The Washington Times and pastor Andy Langford state that the story has Christian themes, such as that of self-sacrifice, which is found in Katniss' substitution for her younger sister, analogous to the sacrifice of Jesus as a substitute for the atonement of sins. Collins weaves a storyline that, with the events of the third book included, can only be ended in one way, and she goes for it. As good as the plot, the writing and everything else is, the protagonist Katniss, outshines them all effortlessly. By the time the film adaptation of The Hunger Games was released in March 2012, the book had been on USA Today 's best-sellers list for 135 consecutive weeks and has sold over 17.

In the days leading up to the Games in the Capitol, they are advised by their drunken mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, the sole living District 12 victor of the Hunger Games; chaperone Effie Trinket; and various stylists to enhance their public perception to get potential sponsors, who will send potentially life-saving gifts during the Games. The Hunger Games is an annual event in which one boy and one girl aged12–18 from each of the twelve districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a televised battle royale to the death. And nothing makes me hit the five star button faster than melancholy to the point where it makes me cry. The image matches the description of the pin that is given in the novel, except for the arrow: "It's as if someone fashioned a small golden bird and then attached a ring around it. Essentially, it describes authors' propensity to abusively use female characters to prompt character development in male protagonists.

The trilogy is essentially the story of Katniss and how she goes from a girl struggling to win the Games to a symbol of rebellion for the oppressed. These are wildly popular (like I'm told Survivor or American Idol used to be), especially with the Capitol crowd and contestants take on a form of celebrity and their stylists are princes and princesses among men. A film adaptation, directed by Gary Ross and co-written and co-produced by Collins herself, was released in 2012. Imagine yourself channel-surfing between Survivor and American Idol with a bit of I, Claudius and Star Wars thrown into the mix. However, she may rely too much on the strength of the prose without providing the drama young adult listeners often enjoy. Not only is it infinitely better in terms of story and characterization, it has that one special feature that is the hallmark of a truly great read - relevance. Yeah, well, say goodbye to her before reading this last book because you won’t be seeing much of her again.

Nothing big happens in the book that the author isn’t telling us about it instead of giving us the wonderful descriptions of the previous two books. Perhaps Collins, at best, was providing to us a lesson: violence and violence and more violence does not lead to peace. I am, perhaps, so critical in my review because I've seen this whole thing done right in the "Mistborn" series. Off the bat, we connect to Katniss Everdeen as she jumps in to take the place of her younger sister and represent district 12 along with Peeta. And when you’re done reading all three books at a breakneck pace and your eyes are about to give up, there will be a several lingering questions in your mind starting with the first and most important one - how far would you go for the people that you love? This is because the Capitol feels that she had defied them by her move at the end of the games to ensure her survival as well as Peeta’s. Thinking one day about Alice in Wonderland, she was struck by how pastoral the setting must seem to kids who, like her own, lived in urban surroundings. Much like Golden Son in the Red Rising series, this was the perfect sequel: it expands the world, gives depth to the characters we know, grows in the writing department by being much smoother, and above all, tells a tense and more compelling and interesting sequel story. The main thing that this first book does so well is world-build and have an utterly compelling plot and sequence of events. Their venom kills two of the Careers and drives the others away, but Katniss is stung and begins hallucinating.
