In 2020, Baldacci launched his own podcast, “David Baldacci’s Power of Story,” where he interviews fellow authors and discusses the craft of writing. The Fallen is the fourth book in the series and probably my second favourite to the original as it’s very much about Decker and his investigation skills and there’s probably less workplace / territorial game-playing in the background.Murder required the specific element of malice aforethought, which was not present with any of the other categories of homicide he’d been considering. And – like other novels in the series which have introduced characters with whom Decker can relate – Baldacci includes the remaining member of the Baron family… much hated by the town his family created, before his predecessors cried poor and closed down its factories. He quickly retreated up the stairs, holstered his gun, stepped out onto the front porch, and waited.
What was supposed to be a relaxing vacation turns into a murder investigation when two bodies are found in a nearby deserted house. And with the lives of people he cares about suddenly hanging in the balance, Decker begins to realize that the recent string of deaths may be only one small piece of a much larger scheme–with consequences that will reach far beyond Baronville.
