About this deal

When I first read it when I was 9 I thought it was magical and even after all these years it has fond memories for me and will forever be in my book of happy memories . The story is focused around the Faraway Tree, so named because, as it is the tallest tree in the forest, it reaches beyond the clouds and the world above it is constantly changing to different fantasy lands. And that night, at bedtime all three stood at the window, looking out on the dark, whispering wood behind the cottage. At first, Connie refuses to believe in the Faraway Tree or the magical folk who live in it, even when the Angry Pixie throws ink at her and when Dame Washalot soaks her. The magic tree had all these queer characters that were somewhat funny, and accompanied the children to their adventures atop the magic faraway tree.Christopher's School, Beckenham, and - having decided not to pursue her music - at Ipswich High School, where she trained as a kindergarten teacher. Some' feel the youngest sister was fat shamed for helping herself to too many toffees "because she was a very greedy girl". I've loved this book for nearly 18 years now and I encourage anyone, adult or child to try and find an original unedited Enid Blyton book to read.

I'm really enjoying reading the enchanted wood I would like you to wright more books like that if you can because its a very good book that I would like to read more of that kind. There was Joe, Bessie and Fannie, the three siblings; and then there were the magic tree dwellers, Mr Watzisname, Moon Face, Sauce-pan man and my favorite character, Silky.

I am definitely not a child anymore, but I admit that I partially bought these books in hopes that one day I can read these original editions to children and hope they enjoy Jo, Bessie and Fanny's adventures in the Enchanted Wood they way Enid Blyton intended them to be as much as I still do. I thought it quite good in pre-reading, and when it came time to include the kids, they were absolutely enthralled - Blyton really did know her audience. There are also a number of other characters, such as Wat-is-name, the angry pixie, and Mrs Washalot.Unlike the first three books in the series, this work is not a novel, but a series of illustrations with short text underneath. It's the loss of Bessie that I find saddest as it was updated because Bess/Bessie has fallen out of fashion. The Saucepan Man's mother decides to live in the tree, leaving her job as a baker in Dame Slap's land. The children could not hear what was being said, but they heard the sound of the chattering voices, and caught one or two words. As for the three children – I never developed different voices for them with my read aloud as I did with the characters of Winnie-the-Pooh because quite frankly they all spoke exactly the same way and had near identical characters.

Enid Blyton turns out (according to Wikipedia) to be a rather strange woman and not somebody who one would expect to the a very successful author of children's books. I had a big hardback edition with a green cover and delightfully-1970s illustrations, which I found were still embedded in my mind as I revisited the book. My only worry was that I wouldn't enjoy the books now that I am an adult, along with worrying that my brain had perhaps overhyped these books a little too much in my head. While the roadworks only cover a short area they are regrettably causing long tailbacks and disruption.

I spent a couple of hours today revisiting these old friends and I was quite amazed by how much I remembered after more than fifty years.
