About Stepping Up Stepping Up is a breakthrough leadership manifesto which urges everyone to step up and lead with courage and kindness. Each chapter focuses on a different way of Stepping Up, a specific behavior, what Stepping up means, what it doesn't mean, and includes personal stories from folks who have stepped up to bring the ideas to life. Essentially a guide for taking full responsibility for your acts and never play the role of a victim. Humour and heart are everywhere in this book, and I went from laughter to tears in the turn of a page. Izzo provides practical advice and actionable steps that readers can take to increase their level of commitment, and he emphasizes the importance of self-awareness and personal growth.

I think I'm going to add this to my yearly reading list, because it is really easy to loose the perspective of moving forward in my spiritual walk (for example, the reason it took me so long to read it is because I'm lazy about reading non-fiction, spiritually minded books).

Stepping Up: the joyful and emotional Sunday Times bestseller

De auteur neemt je als lezer mee het leven in van Beth, een 30-jarige vrouw die baantjes, glazen alcohol en relaties verslind alsof het niets is en nog altijd bij haar ouders woont. So when I saw that she had written a novel, a work of fiction I knew I wanted to read it but also I had my preconceived ideas. It's not that she hasn't tried to grow up, it's just that so far, the only commitment she's held down is Friday drinks at the village pub. Unlearn it and learn to be part of the solution rather than just a finger- pointing, blaming complainer.

An unspeakable tragedy turns Beth’s life upside down, and she finds herself guardian to her teenage niece and toddler nephew, catapulted into an unfamiliar world of bedtime stories, parents’ evenings and cuddly elephants. Sort of a life's work for Rainey, discussing the roles and transitions and struggles of manhood from childhood through adolescence, adulthood, mentorship, and the patriarch. Evidently these stories have been chosen to spice the narrative and proof Izzo's point that individuals can indeed make a difference, but still it's inspiring to find out how these people made a difference by believing they could do it and gradually and patiently made it happen. Some of it may seem so basic and "everyone knows this" type of information, yet it's inspiring and great information to use in new ways with teams or in coaching practices. Dennis Rainiey gave lots of solid advice, but there was not a lot of verses and Biblical application.

I might not remember every anecdote contained within but I'm certain I'll remember this book's message in decision points to come.I suppose I'll take responsibility for my internal assumptions about what I would learn from Stepping Up. I finally managed to dive into his "Stepping Up" book which is an interesting quick read with some motivating and unique stories of people who stepped up and made a difference. With a little help from her best friend Jory (purely platonic, of course…) and her lovely, lonely next-door neighbour, Albert, Beth is determined that this time she’s not giving up. The 100/0 mantra (100% responsibility and no excuses) requires an environment that fosters taking responsibility.

Sarah Turner is er met haar fijne en toegankelijke schrijfstijl niet alleen in geslaagd dat je als lezer met Beth gaat meeleven, maar je kruipt als het ware ook echt in dit verhaal. All change begins at the grassroots level, when one person has an idea, and then talks with a neighbor, friend, colleague, coworker, etc. This is a story about digging deep for strength you never knew you had and finding magic in things that were there all along.
