I love the quality of the sandpit but my grandson is not quite 3 years old yet and he is an average height for his age yet I feel the sand table is quite low and he is bending over it so I feel he won't get many pre-school years play out of it! This activity is particularly effective if you can set it up on top of a lightbox or board, either straight on it or perhaps using a transparent tray.One is sand combing, a very therapeutic activity that involves creating swirling patterns in the sand using a variety of rakes and combs (these could be homemade, using thick cardboard with notches cut out); another is making a mosaic pattern in the sand with shells or pebbles. A sand table (or sand pit) by itself will provide plenty of opportunity for open-ended play, but there are lots of other ways in which you can tap into the fact that children are naturally drawn to sand. Take it out into the garden and fill it with sand: now your kids can play to their hearts’ content in the DIY sandpit. For best results, secure them to your worktop with screw clamps so they don’t slip while you are sanding them down.
