About this deal

Similar to the other versions, v-sync is engaged but, for reasons unknown, frame-rate is completely unlocked. The graphics in the HD collection seem a little more polished, but I personally don't see a huge difference.

But some well-running fan patches making this game a good experience while improving the once XBox port. New voice actors were brought in to re-record dialogue from both games, directed by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, who had previously provided vocals for various soundtracks in the Silent Hill series. Some enjoyed it as an updated presentation of two favorably regarded games, while others criticized the quality of the compilation, citing the technical issues. Little does he realize that this is the first step forward into the mystery of Silent Hill and his own past. As mentioned above we will stick with PlayStation emulation to stick as close as possible to the original experience. On the bright side, it just covers the interest in the IP, especially in the games from the Team Silent era. Most likely they are the result of the Xbox ports which required the game to be rendered through DirectX nevertheless. Some critics praised it as a general improvement over the originals, [2] [5] [27] while others expressed more mixed feelings about it. Keep in mind that you need a modified or PAL console if you plan to play those games on real hardware. So much about these games holds up today, and even playing them on this collection, so much genuine brilliance to shine through to remind the world how horror games used to look in their glory days.

Team Silent couldn’t render a huge town in an expansive world, so it enshrouded everything in an obscuring haze to cover up what couldn’t be rendered. That said, we have to remember that GPU resources elsewhere are hardly being taxed - these games utilise low-poly models by today's standards and the original textures would need to have been crammed into just 4MB of video RAM. Henry never actually leaves his apartment: he utilizes a strange portal to travel to alternate dimensions, including a hospital, a cult command center deep in the forest, and a prison. The Silent Hill HD Collection featured 720p resolution, a 16:9 aspect ratio, a frame rate of 30 frames per second, achievements for Xbox Live, and trophies for PlayStation Network. Also, with a set 30 frames-per-second performance target (on 360 at least), it's difficult to imagine that there's anything other than a surfeit of rendering time considering the relatively basic level of the visuals on offer here.

Bizarrely, the same choice is not afforded to players of the remastered Silent Hill 3, where only the re-recorded voices are an option. It's more than a little disappointing when directly compared with Bluepoint's work on the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, where both MGS2 and its sequel flowed smoothly at 60 frames per second with multi-sampling anti-aliasing adding greatly to the quality of the overall presentation.

The previous games in the series have mostly been about exploring the town and solving puzzles; this installment has much more combat involved. The third installment in the Silent Hill series is similar to its predecessor visually and gameplay-wise. In the case of the PS3, it's a rare example of an HD remaster that feels worse to play than the original. Aside from typography and UI elements, there is very little evidence that there has actually been any kind of actual "remastering" of original artwork at all - a far cry from the kind of extensive touch-up work carried out, for example, by Just Add Water with its superb Stranger's Wrath HD. Troy Baker, the new voice actor for James Sunderland, disputed this, arguing that residuals for voice acting in video games were unheard of in Japan. Most of the puzzles are logic-based and are often shaped like riddles, though there are a few simple inventory-based tasks as well. After all, Hijinx Studios wasn’t competent enough to correctly port two games, let alone possess the capability to handle three. Not that it would bring much excitement to play Silent Hill while being in the supermarket checkout queue. The development team had to work with incomplete source code provided by Konami, as the published source code had not been archived.
