He has a very short back so fitting a saddle will be tricky and I think this would be a good start for the kids just so they can get a feel for the pony a bit better and possibly get a deeper seat like we would get if we were riding bare back. The pad will not be sufficient on it's own for riding properly and definitely not for an adult or larger rider.
