About this deal

Read the independent review RV daily conducted on our GroundGrabba ground anchors and see how they compare to other ground stakes on the market. If I had to stick with just one brand of screw-in peg, I’d be looking at Ground Grabba or Peggy Peg; they both offer a good range for most soil conditions and I loved the incredible ground-grabbing efforts of Ground Grabba (sorry, I thought it was funny) and the strength of their long steel version at a whopping 710kg of holding force.

I carry a combination of 'normal' plastic pegs for grass, rock pegs and screw pegs for harder surfaces. Screw in tent pegs are great for regular sand, really soft sand and loose earth, and for your standard camp ground earth. It took us 3 ½ years to perfect the design and we’re so happy with the product we offer a Lifetime Replacement Warranty on the steel variety – because we know how good they are! You’re safety is important to us, so remember to not ‘force’ the peg into the ground – let the drill do most of the work.In extremely tough conditions, or to screw the peg in without a drill, place a thin strong rod through the hole in the top section of the peg, and rotate by hand, to screw the peg in place. If you drill too fast, you may end up boring a hole and the GroundGrabba won’t actually bite into the ground. Instead of hammering your tent pegs in the old way, just screw these into and out of the ground in seconds with your rechargeable drill. I always carry a drill as part of my tool kit (bits fall off caravans on a regular basis in my experience) so using it for the screw pegs or steadies is a no-brainer.

Our steel series are made from heavy-duty galvanised steel which means it’s super tough and sturdy and comes with a lifetime replacement warranty. A hammer blow moves the peg past, either by moving the stone, or by moving the peg sideways and thus bypassing the stone.

The only power tool I have bought recently of any other brand is the cheap and cheerful drill I carry in the van, which is ample for the corner steadies and if I choose to use metal screw in pegs (sometimes hammered in but screwed out). The screw pegs are perfect and quick on some surfaces but on others they seem to churn up the ground rather than screw in.

I've used screw-in pegs for years (actually coach bolts with a plastic joining block at the head) and have never had problems other than on hard standings. Sometimes though you will find ground so hard and compact it will be just like concrete and at those times you will need to try widening your pilot hole until you can drive-in your GroundGrabba Pro or Pro II’s. Measuring 220mm in length, they can penetrate deep into the ground for the ultimate ground holding capability. A very easy to use clothesline and so compact that we just put it away in the washing machine, ready for the next use, doesn't over tighten the awning arms and pink so I can see it during the day light. Obviously, we couldn’t hammer the plastic sand pegs into hard-packed dirt and the two smaller steel pegs don’t hold in soft sand. The Caravan Supermarket has 35 years experience in the caravan and camping industry and is based in Birmingham. I use them for some ground types, but never use them as a screw - they just get pounded in with a lump hammer like any other. The ropes attached effortlessly and securely to the awning arm and they held firmly in the ground with the anchors.
