Stating the horror movie rules for survival in each Scream movie still didn't lessen the body count and this film is no different. The disappointing lack of an Atmos track, considering it was released in cinemas with one, galls almost immediately. By not shooting anamorphic, the entire frame maintains a consistent level of detail and sharpness and it helps add a sense of real dimensionality to the picture. Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town's deadly past.

More effort on the extras front would have been nice, but with everything we would want to know about the film already available and out there, this release was all about that transfer and Paramount have well and truly delivered the goods in that department. As more bodies pile up, the veteran heroes and the new teenage bait all try and figure out who the killer is while stating the obvious new rules from recent horror movies.Finally, the image on this new 4K release has the frame opened up a little, showing slightly more image at the sides of the film. However, the lossless mix is ultimately more of the front-heavy variety with the focus on the precise, crystal-clear dialogue. And in many ways, this new 4K disc from Paramount matches this – a soulless set of marketing tools described as ‘extras’ and a set of audio tracks that doesn’t even include the original theatrical Atmos track almost undoes the good work of the really solid 4K image. behind largely because of a less-than-impressive character roster that doesn't grab the material like the original cast.

Mentioning the likes of The Babadook, It Follows, and The Witchis simply fantastic to hear in a Scream movie. A poor use of its classic legacy characters (bar Arquette’s Dewey), a drab set of new characters, no real humour or wit and a sense of ‘meta’ that felt old fashioned and outdated a year after the release of the first film all contribute to the lack of a satisfactory experience. But they’re also joined by an exceptional supporting cast, from Ulrich, Lillard, McGowan, Kennedy, Winkler and of course Drew Barrymore, all doing similarly exceptional work.
