About this deal

Come Boxing Day this year, there'll be handfuls of toffee pennies and Bounties rattling around in empty tubs. The mixture of chocolates you get in each tub is far from consistent though, as one disgruntled and viral Tweet discovered this week. In fact, the Fuse bar, which contained peanuts, raisins and cereal pieces, was discounted altogether in the UK in 2006 but remains popular in India.

It's the most wildly imbalanced selection box we've found yet - a whopping 13 Milky Ways in our red tub, more than double the number of Galaxy Caramels. Yet another sorely missed Heroes option is the classic Time Out bar, which contained layers of wafer and rippled chocolate dipped in smooth Cadbury’s chocolate. You can spot this on plant labels where the main 'selling name' is joined in brackets by the name which holds the official Plant Breeders Rights (PBR) name. There's been a truffle shortage at the Roses factory, it would seem, but they're making up for it with caramel. They flower abundantly from early summer in a choice of colours including pastel shades of pink, peach, cream or snowy-white; vibrant yellow and gold; orange, crimson or red.

So exactly how equal is a tub of Quality Street, which Miniature Hero is the most powerful of them all, and which Celebration has got the most cause for celebration? However, Bournville only lasted a short time as part of the Heroes lineup and was removed altogether in 2013, and now does not feature in any of the popular festive confectionary tubs. The caramel barrel or golden barrel as it's officially known is one of the best finds in a tub of roses.

An example is Gertrude Jekyll ('Ausbord'), which like all other roses is usually only referred to by the selling name - in this case Gertrude Jekyll. Our findings were quite different to the viral Tweet mentioned above, with far fewer toffee pennies. There's no better taste than the gooey strawberry flavoured fondant which is covered in milk chocolate. The popular triangular chocolate bar enjoyed a very short stint as part of the Heroes tub between 2013-2015. The Topic bar was the first Celebrations treat to get the chop way back in 2006, and it looks like 4,600 people a month would welcome the comeback of the nutty treat.

Another sorely missed Celebrations chocolate is the Galaxy Truffle, the removal of which ruined more than a few people’s Christmases back in 2011. The treat was given its own ‘time out’ of the Heroes tub way back in 2007, and sparked uproar in 2016 when it was suggested that Cadbury’s may discontinue the chocolate bar for good. This tub of festive chocolates is already quite caramel-heavy, with three of its sweets just caramel wearing different hats - chewy, barrelled, and carrying a nut.
