About this deal

Mycorrhizal Fungi act like a permanent fertiliser, which results in more roots, so the plants grow faster, vegetable yields increase and better plants have better drought and disease tolerance. Mycorrhizal fungi is a living organism, essential to all plant root development, which enables plants to extract nutrients and absorb moisture more efficiently. Packs of Rootgrow (360g and larger) contain a gel product (granules for 150g packs) which enables you to dilute the Rootgrow in water (to make a wallpaper type consistency) so that you can dip bare roots to obtain maximum usage. Neither fungi nor plants could survive in many uncultivated situations without this mutually beneficial arrangement.

For healthy lawns the Supreme Green Lawn Care range will help existing or newly laid lawns to thrive, even our bestselling Mini Meadow Wild Flower Seed includes rootgrow to help the seeds get the best start possible. It refers to the symbiotic relationships that fungi have with plant roots, aiding absorption of nutrients and helping them grow. It is the smallest pack containing a sachet of dipping gel for quick and easy treatment of bare-root plants. Rootgrow™ Gel has been specially developed for bare root plants and trees, simply add the solution to water and dip the roots before planting as normal.

Toadstools, especially ones that follow root runs and appear below trees, can be a sign of ectomycorrhiza (mycorrhiza living on the outside of a plant), as are the fungal coating and odd branching structure of affected tree and shrub roots. Supported by a science team embracing mycologists, bacteriologist and soil scientist we strive to bring the best of nature’s beneficial biology in support of all forms of ‘growing’. RHS Gardeners endorse rootgrow because rootgrow treated plants establish better with greater vigour, replant more successfully, have better developed root systems and cope better with drought conditions.

rootgrow™ Gel 360g - Empathy rootgrow™ Gel 360g - Empathy

Bare-Rooted PlantsTo treat bare root plants (Shown as Br, Tr or Sd in the catalogue) the most economical and effective way is to make up RootGrow as a dipping gel. It also supports different growth stages of plants and, through its underground root network, these friendly fungi can connect with plants nearby and stimulate the plants’ own natural defence mechanism. Just 1 teaspoon can contain up to 5000 pieces of fungi all ready to explode into growth, colonising every millimetre of a plants roots in a matter of days. rootgrow™ 150g contains mycorrhizal fungi which naturally increase nutrient and water uptake by forming a highly efficient secondary root system . When phosphorus is present in insoluble forms it would require a vast root system for a plant tomeet its phosphorus requirements unaided.

This can help plants establish more quickly and boost healthy growth by supplying additional water and nutrients. rootgrow™ 1Kg with Gel contains mycorrhizal fungi which naturally increase nutrient and water uptake by forming a highly efficient secondary root system . In poor sandy soils the mycorrhizal fungi will be able to find scarce nutrients and hold onto water. There are two methods of application, as a dry granule for container grown plants and as a root dip for bare root plants. Place the plant directly onto the granules so that the rootzone comes into contact with the granules.

Much of the living mass of soils is made up of fungi, which form extensive underground networks, working in partnership with plants and "supercharging" their root systems. The primary beneficiaries of mycorrhizal fungi are woody plants, but other types of plant also benefit. The most important use of mycorrhizal fungi is as a one-off aid when planting, especially of bare rooted trees, shrubs, roses, hedging, fruit, and perennials. These fungi are living organisms and will live with the plant, sourcing a continued nutrient supply for its entire lifetime – a truly sustainable plant nutrition solution. Mycorrhizal fungi are often seen in gardens but may be less effective on frequently cultivated soils that have been heavily fertilised and manured.
