The design of the Sport dumbbells is “sportier” than the other models because it has a more aerodynamic, rounded weight look. It's also important to note that the dumbbells did feel somewhat bulky during exercises, like bicep curls and bench presses, in which we had to pay special attention to make sure they did not hit into each other.

But we do not recommend this pick for intermediate and advanced weightlifters, as the maximum weight per dumbbell is about 19 pounds. Luckily, the brand also offers 44-pound and 66-pound sets if you prefer the loadable style adjustable dumbbell. These adjustable dumbbells were also tested in our Lab and while they didn't make our final list of recommendations, they are a solid option. Dumbbells offer an effective way to add strength training to your at-home fitness routine, but having a a pair of 5-, 15-, and 40-pound dumbbells is not always practical.We rated each set on a scale of 1 (would not recommend) to 5 (highly recommend) for ease of setup, adjustability, ease of use, grip, durability, storage, and overall value. Overall, it is a marvelous piece of equipment, and all I have in my home gym are the power blocks, an adjustable weight bench, and a pull up bar, and I can do 95% of what I can do in the gym. Though, you can upgrade to knurled electroless nickel-plated steel grips on the Elite USA, Pro EXP and Pro 50 — a knurled stainless steel grip option will also be available for the Pro 100 EXP. Although they aren't ideal for exercises like lateral raises or bicep curls, and the weight does tend to get stuck together, they have been an indispensable addition to my home gym and are great for all the basic dumbbell movements. The lowest weight you can use on these dumbbells is 10 pounds, which could still be too much for some exercises that beginners want to do.

Like fixed dumbbells, you can use these weights to train individual muscle groups or target all of them in a full-body workout. However, for those who are into strength training, bodybuilding, or just lift more than pounds, PowerBlocks are an outstanding option. PowerBlock doesn’t make knurled grips for the Sport EXP — you’ll have to go to a third party like BSE for that.You will pay more for adjustable dumbbells initially, but after you factor in how much you would spend on the same weights as fixed dumbbells, you may find the cost of the adjustable dumbbells to make more sense. Rogue offers the Stage 1 PowerBlock Elite EXP Dumbbell Set, along with both the optional Stage 2 and Stage 3 expansion kits. g. it might be overall more durable and/or be better able to withstand hot/cold temps) — But don’t quote me on that, as I haven’t confirmed it.
