About this deal

At that moment, I got into a testing vortex as you can imagine the countless combinations of focal lengths and apertures. and 2x teleconverters (which accounts for its increased size), as well as focus stacking and seamless AF on Olympus bodies –though we really wish that it featured Sync-IS (something that is reserved for Pro lenses like the 150-400mm). I would be walking and stalking so slung the lens from my shoulder on a Black Rapid strap and used a camouflage cover to mask the white barrel. You can see just how much bulkier the OM System lens is, despite its two-thirds stop slower aperture at 100mm.

At first glance and touch, it features very precise workmanship, an ArcaSwiss profile tripod plate, and absolutely silky-smooth running of the focusing and zoom rings.

Well I am sure that there will be graphs of clock faces and the usual boring analysis that means nothing at all to most of us, in my view yes it is sharper but so saying the 100-400mm is mega sharp. In truth I would very very rarely attach the external converters but it's nice to know that it works if I need it. A number of my photographs were awarded at local and overseas competitions such as the Czech Press Photo, Nature's Best Photography, Bird Photographer of the Year, Sony World Photography Awards, Big Picture Awards, Nactus Awards or the most acclaimed one - the Wildlife Photographer of the Year. It also possesses Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical Coating, which reduces ghosting and flare even in difficult conditions (such as backlighting). Indeed at 800mm equivalent the optical stabilisation has to work hard to counteract the effects of camera shake, and as a result is rated to 3 stops, dropping to 2 stops with a teleconverter fitted.

But I do work very closely with Olympus these days on a trust basis and do provide content, reviews and feedback that they can use. Matthew Richards is a photographer and journalist who has spent years using and reviewing all manner of photo gear.

Well, this Mark II version is extensively redesigned from its predecessor, ditching the questionable trombone-style push-pull zoom mechanism in favour of a more conventional twist ring. Instead, the key question is whether you can actually get any more detail using a teleconverter, compared to simply cropping and enlarging an image taken using the lens alone. Working with local nature is so good for our mental health right now and I have used my love of nature and photography to get me through these difficult times. If you are happy with the Canon 70-300mm, then sure, just adapt it to an EOS M body, given you are ok with the lens selection.

MyReality: The AF in the E-M10 is contrast detect only and moreover, 15fps is available only in AFS. Both of these are also distinguishable from each other by touch thanks to the ingenious use of different types of non-slip rubber coating.

We find the combination of lab and real-word testing works best, as each reveals different qualities and characteristics. However, the fact remains that this is a truly excellent lens in its own right, and a worthy option for any Canon EF user.
