Drying to a hard finish that offers great protection, its not quite as durable as a varnish, however has the benefit of being easier to maintain over time. Once you have sanded to remove the current finish and any marks, you can sand at a 100 grit and if filler is required this is the time to apply it. Bona Traffic HD will normally have very good adhesion to pre-varnished flooring, however, it is advisable to check the intercoat adhesion prior to overcoating. As the natural colour of the wood will always have a major influence on the colour of the applied wood finish.

So if you take a look at the Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Tints or Blanchon Hard Wax Oil Tints there may be a colour with in this range that could be close. Once you are ready to apply you could take a look at a varnish for durability the Manns Extra Tough Interior Varnish is a great option, two coats of this will give a well protected and easy to clean surface. Test, Test, Test: It's crucial to test the stain on a scrap piece of oak wood or an inconspicuous project area to ensure you achieve the desired colour. It will darken slightly to give that ‘wet look’ and if you want to avoid this and maintain an untreated appearance you can look at the Fiddes Hard Wax Oil Natural. If the staining is just on the surface then it can be sanded off (or removed using Oxalic acid), if your beams have take a soaking then it could go right through the timber and nothing other than painting them will hide it. I hope the above helps but if you would like to discuss this project further with one of our in-house experts, please feel free to contact us at any time. Its a little messy but work well on most previous coatings, a test area should always be done to ensure there are no adverse reactions. If you have concerns about the transit waiver with the worktop supplier then settle for the Danish Oil finish. We do have a really good product from Sikkens that you could take a look at Sikkens Cetol TSI Satin Plus which can be applied over existing finishes if a test area proves positive and has 5 colour options in the range or alternatively the Ronseal Diamond Hard Interior Coloured Varnish Satin which has slight more colour options with 12 available.

Would you be able to send some photographs of the stairs to me directly and I will be happy to take a look and see if there is anything I am able to recommend.I would say your best option will be to treat the cladding before putting up, this way you will be able to apply to both sides of the boards for a better level of protection. Cuprinol One Coat Sprayable Fence Treatment is specially formulated to work with the Cuprinol Sprayer to colour and protect rough sawn timber in a fraction of the time. If the effect has penetrated fairly deeply then a Fiddes Oxalic Acid Crystals may also be worth considering, a test area is strongly advised. I would now like to stain the top of the rail with a walnut colour and paint the bannister posts white.

In this article, we’ll dive into the different types of stains and finishes, discuss the best ways to apply them, and cover other essential factors that make your final product stand out. It also depends on what the current finish is and what you are planning to apply over it if you are not taking back to bare wood. And I would also recommend the application of the Osmo WR Base Coat before the oil as this will further help to prevent mould build up. The reason I ask is ‘Green Oak’ will have a naturally high moisture content and can not have treatment applied whilst the moisture levels are still high. The Oil should penetrate the surface of the wood and will slightly darken and enhance the natural tones and grain of the wood. The door was treated with Osmo but moisture has got in underneath the “laquer” surface and created mould/mildew black staining.
