This year promises to offer particularly good viewing, since the shower’s peak on the night of August 12 and into the following predawn hours will coincide with a dim, waning crescent moon. For the rest of the world, the two celestial bodies will still put on an amazing show as they appear to brush past each other only one degree apart.
