About this deal

You could just put it in your pocket and attach the cable, but it works much better when connected to your head strap in any number of ways. While using Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, it is always the user's responsibility to comply with any local laws and regulations, especially those relating to privacy and the use of recording devices. The harder strap houses the dome of the back of your head and you can twist the two straps on the side of the Quest to get the angle just right. Or you could have simply strapped a counterweight to the back of the strap like the VR Power, which doubled as a battery pack.

The question is, should you choose a third-party strap replacement and velcro on a battery pack instead to achieve the same result? In terms of sustained use, the better weight distribution means you’ll be able to play in VR for longer without feeling the strain of the Quest 2. The bank isn't too heavy, but it has enough bulk to help offset the Quest 2 headset and plenty of power to top up your Quest 2. Facebook didn’t make this easy; you had to remove the initial straps with some force which, while ultimately harmless if done right, is a little unnerving to do.The Elite Strap with Battery plugs into the charging port; whenever you need to charge the Battery and headset, you simply plug into a USB-C port on the bottom-back of the strap. I definitely think others could push the comfort even further; I’d be likely to replace the Elite Strap with a new FrankenQuest solution should a 3D-printed design come about. While the lighter design is kinder to your face, Quest 2 is still a front-heavy device that will weigh on you after a short amount of time.

You can easily handle the extra weight; in fact, I'd argue it makes the Battery version a better design choice because you'll rely more on weight distribution than a tight knob to keep it firmly in place. For starters, the added weight of the battery strap is a good thing -- because it's in the back of the headset, it causes a balancing effect that removes pressure from your nose and forehead. The headset weight shifts sideways if you tilt your head and otherwise presses down on your nose by default. I've used third-party battery packs that clip to your belt in the past to keep other headsets going, but the Meta-made battery strap for the Quest 2 is something entirely different. For the first time in Facebook’s six-year history-making VR headsets, though, the company is offering its very own upgrade to the solution.Recharging both to full takes several hours, but I just appreciate that it supports passthrough; if you use a 3rd-party battery pack, you'll have to recharge it separately from the headset. It makes it much easier to find the best fit within seconds, and makes the headset more comfortable to wear over longer stretches of time. Given that it’s much easier to remove the straps in Quest 2, I can’t help but think we’ll see a renewed push for third-party accessories and mods on the new headset, even with Facebook’s official alternatives. Having a better head strap is going to improve your VR experience, but there are also ways to improve your new head strap that will make it even better than that.

If you're unconcerned with battery life, you can choose the basic Elite Strap (or any of the excellent, cheaper third-party options). While his main areas of expertise are maker tools -- 3D printers, vinyl cutters, paper printers, and laser cutters -- he also loves to play board games and tabletop RPGs.Depending on whether you bought the 128GB or 256GB headset, you may or may not have extra money to spare.
