About this deal

There’s also an automatic off timer (1-24 hours), so you have more control over when the machine stops running. It’s certainly more modern than the Low Energy range, which is starting to show its age, and won’t look out of place in a contemporary home. With Meaco’s new MeacoDry Arete One, the answer is to go even lower with power consumption and even quieter – and with some higher capacity options, too. It’s designed to extract water and reduce humidity in the average 2 bedroom home or flat, with a maximum extraction capacity of 12 litres per day. There’s also a continuous drainage option that bypasses the tank, allowing you to release the water directly into a drain or sink.

In a more realistic home environment, with a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and relative humidity of 60%, this drops to just 162W.there is no doubt that the quality of the dehumidifiers has improved over the years, especially the DD8L range. The multi-award winning Meaco brand of dehumidifiers introduces the new ‘ABC’ range of home compressor dehumidifiers. Meaco’s own noise measurements, taken in a sealed chamber using calibrated microphones at 1m from all four sides, measured noise levels at between 38dB and 40dB for the 20L model and 40 and 42dB for the 25L model. It absolutely is quiet, very much so, but as with any sustained sound output it's more the frequency output which can distract - it's got a hum that sensitive ears will find distracting, in the same way that a household fridge can be. Woke up to the machine off, but I suspect it switched back to laundry mode, ran the 6 hours, then completely switched off (which I presume is how laundry mode functions?

Of course, it’s also quite expensive and for smaller rooms and spaces you can save some cash with a more compact 10-12L dehumidifier. The downside of the Arete One’s hassle-free approach is that you don’t have as much direct control over fan speeds, timers or noise levels that you get with some other dehumidifiers. There is nothing worse than your dehumidifier breaking down just after the Manufacturer's warranty has expired. There is a recessed handle, but portability is one area the MeacoDry ABC lags behind other machines. The low speed is perfect if you want to maintain a certain humidity level with minimal noise (more on the ABC’s quiet operation in a moment), while the high speed reduces humidity faster. With its sleek grill and white exterior, we think the MeacoDry is one of the most attractive dehumidifiers on the market. For comparison, the excellent Meaco DD8L Zambezi, which is a desiccant model, has a maximum noise output of 50dB. Normally, you wouldn’t do this – the ideal humidity is usually 40% to 60% and within a few degrees of 50% is fine.

If you press the Smart Humidity mode button repeatedly, you can cycle between the available humidity targets, ranging from 40% to 70%rh, with a continuous option if you just want to keep dehumidifying, no matter what. Both of those models have a lower maximum extraction rate, however, so Meaco has done a great job of keeping the ABC slim and compact. This isn’t a complaint – air purification is a bonus on a dehumidifier, not an essential feature – but could be important if you suffer from allergies. The pressure-sensitive keys, clear indicators and digital display make it easy to switch between modes and keep an eye on the current humidity levels. Meaco’s existing 20L MeacoDry ABC dehumidifier produced a maximum 44dB(A) of noise at one metre and consumed roughly 244W. I am planning to leave the machine off, but the room gets very cold, the temperature can drop to 14 degrees.

You can be assured that your dehumidifier will be covered against failure for the duration of your policy. We've found it to get to full in under a day in such conditions, which is a surprise - but at least you know it's doing a darn good job. A simple easy to use control panel – we made the most often used buttons larger and the least used buttons smaller. It's also a great way to assist with drying washing indoors over the winter period when there's no sun available or it's just raining. The ABC does exactly what it’s designed to do: quickly reduce humidity in the average UK home with minimal noise output and energy consumption. What’s more, it’s not the most effective dehumidifier I’ve seen for actually drying your clothes; even after six hours some garments were still slightly damp to the touch.
