About this deal

I remember getting my first PVR fifteen years ago – a Pace Twin with a 20GB hard drive, rendered useless a few years later by technical changes to the terrestrial broadcast platform. That 'given point' is rather variable but I suspect it is related to the start time of the F1 recording. I thought that the SD ones just looked very, very slightly less sharp than they did on previous boxes, but without a side by side comparison it is difficult to make any meaningful comparison.

The guide can be quickly navigated by entering the channel of interest with the number buttons and navigated by day using the fast forward buttons. Over the years, I've had a few PVRs, from the early Humax models, to the DigitalStream, Huawei YouView and a (rather grotty) Goodmans HD unit. The remote is laid out clearly with reasonably sized buttons that have a reassuring feel to them when pressed. Recording-wise, for SD/HD Freeview time-shifting there are few differences between the boxes in real terms. And the T2-R nicely whets the appetite for the company's incoming T3-R, which adds streaming bells and whistles. Fixed an issue that could cause intermittent video freezing/stuttering with high-bitrate HD recordings. When it asks for your PIN, enter the Master PIN and then follow the instructions to create a new one. There (strangely) seems to be no option to manually enter a recording, nor to manually edit a recording start/stop times. I may be able to fast forward past the first BTTC race, but after this 'given time' although the recording shows four hours remaining I will get 'Your recording has ended' at (for example) only three hours into the recording, when I am less than half way through the seven hours.

Moved ‘Edit Protected Channels’ and ‘Show/Hide Protected Channels’ into their own ‘Protected Channels’ sub-menu of the Channels menu. The quality of recordings is excellent, with HD channels excelling, of course, but SD content more than acceptable on a big TV. After watching a recording of a live programme (chase playback) to the end, when next using live pause, it could freeze and then fail to respond until a restart. We have Freeview TV boxes that enable you to watch, pause, rewind or record the TV you love from over 85 channels and the very best subscription-free catch-up TV, and in Ultra HD 4K HDR. The Humax single tuner model always worked well, as did the 9200T but from then on, eighteen months seems to be the life of them before they become erratic and start to drop recordings seemingly at random. No - but the T3•R box needs the internet to access the great range of On Demand services they offer and take advantage of all of their features.
