About this deal

I watched a video where they compared the latest brushless drills from all makes ,and sadly the makita wasn't really on top. He is a member of the Gas Safe Register, has a Masters degree in Sustainable Architecture, and is an authority in sustainable building and energy efficiency, with extensive knowledge in building fabrics, heat recovery ventilation, renewables, and also conventional heating systems. The drill is compatible with the Makita 18 volt LXT lithium ion range of batteries so will easily fit into a system of tools that all use the same batteries. The Makita DHP458Z Hammer drill is a top end cordless drill that is as happy being used at home or all day on a busy site.

This combi drill comes with two 5Ah batteries and a fast charger all in a Makpac Type 2 Carry Case with Inlay. Both are excellent combi drills, but you may be wondering what is the difference between Makita DHP484 and DHP485?The 2 speed gearbox provides 0-1,800rpm in high and 0-400rpm in low which also delivers a massive torque of 88Nm, plenty of power even for the most demanding drilling and screwdriving tasks. It has three operating modes for standard high speed drilling in metal and wood, hammer for masonry drilling and ‘driving’ for screwing in screws. is it a serious improvement over the 458 with it being brushless and the power output being bumped up from 88 to 115nm, or it's more or less the same stuff just a tiny bit better? When using 5Ah batteries on site, for example, one battery will usually last most of the day on site unless drilling larger holes through joist sized timbers.

The DHP458 cordless combi drill / driver is an extremely compact tool with an overall length of 225mm the shortest in its class with high power and productivity achieved with new DC motor (FD31-30). Perhaps one last question from me - I have the option of higher torque brushed motor versus lower torque brushless motor on the Makita - I have zero experience with the BL motors.
