About this deal

The body of the Aderyn cowl provides a protective shroud rather like a large umbrella, and the pivot point is positioned behind the head which acts as a wind vane that ensures the cowl always faces away from the wind, fully protecting and shielding the chimney pot. However, it has been designed for both durability and practicality, with a bulbous lid for ease of sweeping. With three hidden stainless steel straps running across the body of the cowl, bent and formed to provide maximum durability, it is now stronger than those slightly smaller cowls that need less structural integrity.

It is our expressed opinion this affects all spinning and revolving chimney cowls, irrespective of manufacturer. MAD Cowls is also known for their range of bird guards to alleviate the nuisance of birds, small animals, and leaves entering the chimney. Since that time, right up until 2005, the Burford family designed and manufactured chimney cowls for other companies within Europe, who built solid reputations from our designs, quality and dependability. The incorporation of swages and strengthening beads on the lid of the MK2, allow for increased structural integrity and durability for longer periods of service. Colt Cowls supply the largest range of chimney cowls in the UK, and have a reputation for producing the highest quality chimney cowls and chimney birdguard cowls available on the market. No cowl can be guaranteed to cure all types of downdraught as the causes are so varied, but tests and observations have shown that the Aderyn cowl is one of the best at doing exactly that because unfavourable downward air flows are split by the cowl and directed over each side of the pot, and the low pressure zone just above the pot is pre-served, maintaining chimney function. Additionally, MAD Cowls offer chimney liner cowls, redundant chimney caps as well as spinning cowls made from a thick aluminium cast base with a stainless steel fin set and shaft assembly.

The Aderyn cowl is a directional cowl that provides complete dynamic protection to the chimney flue from wind-driven rain and downdraughts. This is the cause of the commonly-seen defect where the top few brick courses of the stack are falling apart, or where a stack is leaning due to acid-induced swelling of the mortar on one side. MAD Cowls manufactures 3 different models of static anti-downdraught chimney cowls – the Senior, the Junior, and the MAD. Colt Chimn e y Cowls a re available through all good Builders Merchants and Fireplace/ Stove distribution centres. The proximity of another building, trees, adjacent roof pitches or other feature will cause turbulence which can frequently cause problems.Made from stainless steel, providing a more durable and long lasting Birdguard when corrosive smokeless fuels are burnt. A.D spinner cowl is made from thick aluminium cast base with a stainless steel fin set and shaft assembly. iii) and lastly (which is common in the most popular of new smaller compact cowls that purport to achieve both of the latter), the senior does not restrict the flow of gases where smaller compact cowls often do.

In certain conditions, this is enough to send the smoke right down to the ground where it can become a nuisance. Wind-driven rain normally enters any standard cowl, and this can result in water being funnelled directly down into a stove in the case where a chimney liner is installed, causing rusting or damage to the stove lining. Explained further– It is our opinion that no spinning/revolving chimney cowl is suitable for use with peat or smokeless fuel without increased levels of annual maintenance, that is why we do not offer a guarantee when these fuels are used. It is almost impossible to find such an expertly designed and crafted product that can successfully manage all of the above problems – this product does!

In any event this is a fantastic problem solving product- in the way of assisting with blow back or down draught. By being able to properly asses the strength and ability of a raw material through working with it we are able to engineer a better cowl, which in turn gives us a advantage over the vast majority of our competitors who invariably do not possess the engineering back ground we do. D Cowls was established and first marketed in 2005, however, our roots and vast experience in designing and manufacturing chimney cowls goes back to the early 80’s.

Using light weight materials is not an option when producing a cowl that will be placed under such stress when in use. For over 80 years Colt Cowls have been supplying the UK market with chimney cowls and can therefore boast the most experience in designing and producing chimney cowls.uk), has provided us with the knowledge and understanding of how to manufacture technical products such as this. We know how many stresses are placed on a spinning cowl especially when wind speeds are at increased levels. Testament to our claims is that our range is available for all the largest builders’ merchants’ right across the UK along with all major chimney and flue distributors. Today the range of products supplied by Colt Cowls includes static anti downdraught chimney cowls, revolving anti downdraught chimney cowls (Rotorvents®), chimney birdguards, rain cowls, chimney liner (flexible flue liner), stove pipe, stove fans, and a complete range of Twin Wall Flue and Twin Wall Flue Systems.
