About this deal

She is still hung up about her Ex, but soon finds out that "Adonis-guy" is always going to treat her right, and adores her to boot! We are audio only, because she had forgotten that she was planning to dye her hair today, and “has a bloody hair-dye bonnet on”.

Mad about You by Mhairi McFarlane | Waterstones

But when a toxic and dreaded past comes to haunt Harriet, leaving her career, friendship, and reputation in jeopardy, she must stand up for herself and risk her future to share the truth. For example, we find out that Jon would never let her hang fairy lights in the house, that he hid pictures that meant a lot to her away. The chapter endings at times are really odd, like it would stop right in the middle of a scene and the next chapter begins in continuation with the next line of the very scene. The romance that slowly emerges between Harriet and Cal takes a backseat to Harriet’s personal growth. She ends up renting a room from Cal Clarke and after several serious misunderstandings they become friends and not just flat mates. She accepts out of huge embarrassment and almost immediately breaks it off with Jon making it possibly one of the shortest engagements in history! As usual, it’s a good read from a talented author and also many thanks for the “God’s own country” setting – Yorkshire, where else! HarperCollins), in which Edie accidentally kisses the groom at a wedding and finds herself shamed on social media and retreating home to Nottingham, is possibly my favourite.

Mad About You by Mhairi McFarlane | Goodreads

Mad About You was such a joy to read - it's laugh out loud funny, devastatingly moving, and delightfully swoony, all at once. Harriet is fortunate to have a wonderful best friend in Lorna, who has far greater clarity when it comes to Jon than Harriet does, and is unshakeable in being there for Harriet when her life unravels. Additionally, early on in the narrative, there are hints that point to Harriet having had a traumatic experience in her 20s. This is another old ARC that I completely forgot about until my library turn came around for McFarlane’s new release and it popped up on the Kindle .One thing that made me sad was that I saw a lot of readers saying that they gave up on this book because Harriet seemed to be such a victim. On the slightly negative side, I did feel that for me personally too much time was devoted to the exes here, particularly as there is not just Scott, but Jon too, not to mention we have Cal's ex Kristina, the woman he jilted at the altar! However, I don’t think most readers who look at that title will think of this meaning while picking up the book. She adds: “There were an awful lot of bakeries, and everybody seemed to live in West London, and it was very cupcake-y. I think her character and the situations she finds herself in are very relatable and realistic, and I was so invested in her story and hoping for her to find happiness.
