About this deal

Emma Carroll has a wonderful takent for bringing historic events to life for today’s young readers and with Letters from the Lighthouse continues to create an enthralling, thrilling read, whilst introducing situations and characters that are still relevant in our world today. We were the going to be beaten by hate" is a message that transcends the period setting, speaking straight to a contemporary audience. Initially, I didn't want to read a WW2 book, but having read it, I'm really glad that I did and it has left me in the mood for more Emma Carroll books. I read through the book beforehand and then timed my teaching to coincide with the book so that my children were able to better visualise what I was teaching them. Ea aduce în prim-plan personaje diverse, cu accentul pus pe o copilă, care învață pe propria sa piele ce înseamnă toleranța și într-ajutorarea celor din jur, aflați în necaz.

This is a great resource that can accompany chapter 5 – Caring for Evacuees is a National Service from the Letters from the Lighthouse book.German bombs are falling like pennies from a bottle when Olive and her family are struck by a bomb blast. My favourite character was Olive because she had a lot of courage and she did things for other people that needed help. She is a graduate of the University of East Anglia and earned her master’s degree from Bath Spa University.

Being an evacuee she has an understanding of the prejudice that can come from lack of understanding. The book is packed with mystery and suspense which made me want to read it as I love mystery and history books.I would highly recommend this book to a person who likes adventures and mysteries, and unexpected endings. Tocmai de aceea, părinții își trimit copiii singuri, în zonele rurale, pentru a îi salva un pic de la toată trauma pe care o provoacă un război de o asemenea amploare. After months of bombing raids in London, twelve-year-old Olive Bradshaw and her little brother Cliff are evacuated to the Devon coast. The author conveys the relationship between these two younger siblings beautifully; Olive's love and care for her little brother is palpable. Olive also shows substantial resilience and determination throughout the book, making her a wonderful, relatable role model for children.

My favourite character is Esther because she stands up to the most fierce, and even if she was a bully, that's changed now! She moves to the isolated Cornish coast with her father, who is an air raid warden, where she finds solace in discovering the secrets of the mysterious old lighthouse at the nearby harbor. The main protagonists are Olive and Cliff, a brother and sister evacuated from London to a small fishing village in Devon during WW II.She let Esther stay at her house because she was sympathetic towards this child who had been through some very difficult experiences. I already know a lot about World War 2 but it made me want to learn more about the people in the boats. I did read it really quickly There is secrecy, mystery, adventure and real danger within the story which is narrated by the main character, a twelve years old girl. Queenie, who runs the post office in Budmouth Point, and Ephraim, the lighthouse keeper are hiding a secret. The story begins when Olive, her older sister Suki and her younger brother Cliff go to the cinema and get caught in an air raid attack.

Yet amongst this close-knit community, she discovers a mystery which ties Sukie to a plot as dangerous as it is mysterious. I thought the book showed the history of the war very well but I think it is more suitable for older children because as we know the war was a difficult time and a lot of people died.

Letters from the Lighthouse PDF is a heart-warming World War II novel written by British author Emma Carroll.
