About this deal

These are juniper, coriander, angelica, orris root, cassia bark, liquorice, bitter orange, sweet orange and lemon peel. The zest and spicy notes of the gin are combined with orange juice, tonic water and Tabasco, with a final touch of pomegranate syrup for colour and sweetness. An English gin from The Lakes Distillery, which is made with botanicals including juniper, black pepper and orange peel. Set in what was once a Victorian farmstead’s cattle parlour, it is the perfect place for a kitchen focused on local food and honest, hearty flavours. Steel Bonnets from The Lakes Distillery is an intriguing blended malt, made with whiskies from both Scotland and England! The Lakes Distillery has added to its Whiskymaker's Editions series with the delightful Infinity, a whisky matured in a combination of oloroso, palo cortado, fino, and manzanilla sherry casks. The profile doesn’t change much when tonic is added – a bit more sweetness and citrus, with the peppery notes dialed down a notch. The same botanicals are the preferred choice of perfumers and chefs seeking to create the perfect aroma and taste experiences.

The distillery now employs over 80 people, and has opened up new career possibilities: distiller, chef, warehouseman. From The Lakes Distillery in Cumbria comes The Lakes Vodka, which is made with water from the River Derwent (the very same River Derwent which was mentioned in William Wordworth's book, The Prelude!

Named Iris, whisky maker Dhavall Gandhi was inspired by a town in the western Himalayas, Gulmarg, which translates as 'meadow of flowers'. The Lakes Distillery produces some brilliant blends, combining its own single malt with wonderful whiskies from across the British Isles.

The Lakes Whiskymaker's Reserve series concludes (a real shame it's ending) with another sherry-tastic release that proves English whisky can compete with the best. It’s also got a creamier texture in the mouth – a clean freshness and it does a better job of transporting me to the Lake District than its predecessor – taking me back to childhood holidays overlooking the crystal waters of the area. The botanicals are steeped overnight before the spirit is blended with water from the Lake District National Park. The nine botanicals are macerated (steeped) in warm wheat spirit overnight, allowing the essential oils to be delicately released. Bright and sweet with fruity, floral qualities, accompanied by a good helping of citrus notes throughout. depictions of the symbol were unearthed in the original masonry of the distillery during renovation and it’s used as a reminder of their core beliefs: faith, hope, luck, and love.

By steeping the botanicals overnight like loose-leaf tea, they interact freely with the warm spirit to encourage the essential oils to release more slowly, protecting their delicate nature. I’d highly recommend a visit – as well as tours, there’s also a visitor centre, bistro and the pièce de résistance, the alpacas! They elevate flavour by using only a select few botanicals, gently infusing them in the finest British wheat spirit, distilling in their traditional copper pot still and only drawing the purest water from their Lake District National Park home in a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
