About this deal

There have been a number of iterations to Henry over the last decade in terms of motor power, meaning the Henry Hoover suction power and wattage is different depending on which model you have at your disposal. There’s Hetty, who’s also known as the female Henry Hoover, as well as James, Harry, George and Charles, the latter two which are wet and dry vacuums. The Henry Xtra is still a great cylinder vacuum cleaner in its own right, but in our opinion if you’re choosing between the Xtra and Henry it’s only really worth the additional cost if you have pets that leave stubborn pet hair around the home. He is slightly heavier than most of his family, but it’s worth it for the extra capacity and more powerful motor.

Over time if you do use the Henry without bags, you risk damaging the motor which could lead to reduced performance. The high option operated at 1200 watts and the low option at 620 watts, meaning you could almost double the suction power when needed.

If the filter becomes smelly, you can use bag fresheners to improve the smell of the air, or alternatively you can purchase a replacement filter. The brush of choice if you want a powerful carpet cleaner, the AiroBrush picks up stubborn dust, dirt and pet hairs from carpet fibres. Annie loves this stick vacuum and truly rates it as one of the best she's ever used, and it managed to deal with the copious amount of pet hair Doug sheds, too. The Henry Xtra – otherwise known as the Henry Extra Hoover – is Numatic’s attempt at an upgrade on the hugely popular Henry Hoover. The additional AiroBrush floor tool is worth its weight in gold and will do a better job at picking up those pesky pet hairs than Henry the Hoover.

So that he can continue to deliver as a vacuum, Henry has had a number of iterations over the years as Numatic have made tweaks to ensure he remains very good at what he does best. The EcoBrush came in handy during testing for giving upholstery and stairs a once over, according to our vacuum expert Jen. A Henry hoover or Henry vacuum is somewhat a household staple across the UK, after the likes of Heinz Beanz and PG Tips, of course. What this filter is excellent at sucking up dust particles and preventing them from being pushed back into the air.

Without doubt the stand-out Xtra is the unique Airobrush, which is great with pet hair and also helps to provide a pristine clean on soft surfaces like carpets. As well as Henry himself and the combi floor tool mentioned above, there are a range of attachments that come in the Henry Hoover box. Hetty has a highly efficient motor, a 10 metre cable and rewind storage system, and comes with a host of useful accessories. Like Henry, the Xtra is red and black and has a smiling face that is synonymous with vacuums from the Numatic range. Another relative newcomer to the Henry Hoover family, the Henry Allergy has been built to reduce exposure to dust and pet related allergens.
