Fearne Cotton’s Yoga Babies is one of the best picture books for encouraging mindfulness in little ones, so we were excited to trial her latest kids’ offering, Your Mood Journal, which is broken up into seven chapters, each one tackling a different emotion like anger, happiness or loneliness. It’s been especially crafted by parenting coach Nadim Saad and psychotherapist Annabel Rosenhead to encourage a wealth of important skills in children, including self-awareness, positive thinking, resilience, growth mindset, confidence, mindfulness, kindness and gratitude. Children don’t cope well with failure as opposed to seeing mistakes as part of a journey in learning.

That our positive behaviours have a positive affect on others as well as ourselves and the world around us. Within each episode children are given more tools to help them identify and articulate their feelings, and develop the skills to self-regulate. Focusing on the page that shows how the journaling pages work, ask them questions about what they find interesting, which bits they think they will enjoy the most. Whether you prefer shouting about it, scribbling it down on paper, or blogging the pants out of a situation, out is best. This is a really important part of the positive daily habit they are creating, as it allows them to realise that their feeling are temporary and that we have more than one feeling each day.
