About this deal

Nose: aromatic, sweet fresh fruit, spice, raisins, honey, vanilla, sherry cask influence is noticeable but well balanced, dark fruits, plum, dark berries, cola, mineral note - this is a complex nose with many layers, very enjoyable, a preview of things to come. The Solera system used for the Glenfiddich combines sherry and ex-bourbon aged whisky into a vat of new virgin oak which produces lots of flavors and scents but it doesn't magnify any of them like the Aberlour 16s blending seems to do (at least for me anyway. You are able to pick up on the individual barrel’s influence on the whisky in a way that is presented in a nice cohesive package.

Nose: Though sherry is only one of the three types of casks in which Glenfiddich 15 is aged, it dominates on the nose. The Glenfiddich 15 year old is just this sort of whisky, done with sherry, bourbon and new oak casks. This one walks a line between the freshness of the 12YO and the richness of the 18YO, so if you have to stick to one bottle, this one does it well. It’s also the secret behind this whisky becoming the first 15 year old expression to enter the top ten best selling single malts. That said, Jim Murray is unfortunately very accurate in saying that the finish of the DE disappears quite quickly. Likewise, water and ice aren’t necessary; this whisky is very approachable when drunk neat, and adding any dilution is a net subtraction. Unlike any other whisky in its range, this one is married in a huge Solera vat (from malt matured in European, American and new American oak) before being further matured in Portuguese oak tuns. Glenfiddich is crafted using a traditional recipe centered around three main ingredients: water, yeast and malted barley. Warm and buttery in appearance, Glenfiddich 15 appears younger in the glass than one might imagine considering its age.

I would suggest this as one of those evening drams you have to wind the day down and reflect on what you’ve had to put up with that day! While we have taken care in preparing this summary and believe it to be accurate, it is not a substitute for reading the product packaging and label prior to use. Malt is kept in the background in favour of the cask influence; however, a drop of water brings it forward. We are one of the oldest family-owned distilleries in the world, with a pioneering spirit passed down through generations.

The pear and butterscotch notes of the 12-year-old are replaced by raisin, orange, and chocolate, and it’s a bit spicier, with notes of ginger and cinnamon.

Honey and citrous (especially oranges) hit me straight away from over a foot away as I hold the glass in my lap. On the nose we have sweet malt, raisin, oak (with a touch of wood smoke), rich dark honey and overripe peaches. The first bottle was absolutely wonderful, with deep, rich dried fruit flavors, and extremely smooth and enjoyable to drink. This was my first attempt at a whisky review and I'm surprised, some 14 months on, that my tasting notes remain about the same. But in a couple of days, when I let it breathe a bit, it rewarded me with a magnificient complexity and taste. I'm surprised your bottle lasted 2 years, as I find that if I don't finish an open bottle within 2 months, it oxidizes and changes flavors. Whether you prefer a fruity taste or oak aroma, there's a smooth Glenfiddich single malt Scotch whisky variation for any taste preference, including the Grand Cru 23-year-old and the Grande Couronne 26-year-old Scotch whisky. Nose: Initially I acquired strong notes of dark fruits especially berries in the way of raspberries.
