About this deal

The toothbrush also has the same intelligent pressure sensor, plus an accelerometer to detect its position as you brush. Most of the electric toothbrushes we've tested come with a travel case, but the higher-end brushes have cases with rechargeable batteries, so your brush doesn't run flat during long trips away. Even the Oral-B Genius X's slower modes are fairly powerful, and its pressure sensor isn't as sensitive as that of the iO Series 9, so if your dentist has warned you about gum damage then the more expensive toothbrush could be a better choice.

In addition to the standard charger, you get a luxury travel case that carries the handle with up to two heads and that also doubles up as a charger. Positive reviews mention a "glossy, smooth feeling" after cleaning, while many users enjoy the coaching aspects of the app. Oral-B’s Genius X was the first brush that the company branded with their Artificial Intelligence sell (later, would come the iO range) and it was the first to use an algorithm.

However, we can see that for someone suffering from gum disease, even with the soft bristles of the provided sensi ultrathin brush head, the pro clean could cause excessive bleeding and so the gum care mode might be a better option. However, whilst it need not be a suction cup holder, it would be nice to see some sort of stand included with the X. It is essentially a small countertop unit that connects to the brush, tracking how long you have been brushing for, rating your cleaning performance and showing the active cleaning mode.

The company extracted this algorithm from studying how thousands of people brushed their teeth, to help improve brushing technique and coverage. The app also helps to identify brushing habits and patterns, allowing users to spot which teeth they keep missing, how much pressure they use, and more via their brushing history. Offering four modes, including two sensitive modes, you still get a superb clean both on and in-between teeth.

We found the brush to be very quiet (much more so than a typical oscillating brush) and felt smooth as you work your way around your mouth. Like the older model, the Genius X then gives live feedback on your brushing, showing which areas you’re targeting. However, some users report quickly becoming bored and using the toothbrush as a regular electric toothbrush without the bells and whistles of the app. The best electric toothbrushes help you improve your brushing and oral hygiene, using a mixture of hardware and software. The pressure sensor at the top of the toothbrush handle flashes red when too much pressure is applied.

It also gives an excellent clean, with a choice of six brush modes and three brush heads – CrossAction, 3D White and Sensitive – to cover a wide range of dental needs. We found the toothbrush head a little large compared to a standard electric toothbrush head, and it felt a little firmer than most toothbrush heads.

We test a number of aspects during our at-home testing, including decibel level of the toothbrush itself, its various settings and modes, and how long it takes to charge and run down.
